Even if he was a total idiot he could be just naturally lucid dreaming. It's a gift. Some young children will say things like that cause it's just natural for them to dream share, or LD and stuff. He might just be asking for attention also.

Some people are naturals. If he's a close friend of yours I doubt he'd be lying about it.

To answer the original question, if this guy isn't excited talking about it, maybe he's lying.
Because for a fact, I know when I talk about Lucid Dreaming I'm excited like mad.

My sister said the same thing when I talked to her about it. I dont think she really understood what I was talking about. I refuse to believe that anyone could NOT be more excited about lucid dreaming. I think maybe they just experience semi-lucidity or very low level lucidity?

That's what happens sometimes in my dreams. I remember thinking things like "I have different hair because i'm dreaming" but not really realizing it, more like just dreaming about realizing it or something.

Some people just don't understand what it is and just arrogantly assume they do it. I've had that conversation before with someone who claimed to be a lucid dreamer every night but really didn't get what it was about.

It doesn't matter how you can find out if he's telling the truth or not, don't dwell too much on it. I think he hasn't shown it to others because he either hasn't grasped the full scope of what lucid dreams can do, or else he tried telling someone about it in his past and had a negative or apathetic response to his excitement.

heh, I don't see why he would be lying just because of lack of excitment, I mean, if he is a natural, it wouldn't be weird to take it for granted, right?

Its like a person without legs all of a sudden being able to walk. The sheer joy of hearing leaves crushed underfoot, of running into the wind...can you remember the last time you were excited at using your legs? Maybe lucid dreaming is as mundane to him as using your legs is to you.

You should tell him about DV, I'm sure he would have good advice, if he is a natural. The more the merrier

All these replies are right. He could just be a natural. After all even some naturals have no clue that becoming lucid is a thing not everyone can do. They see it as perfectly normal and that we all dream like that.

These last few posts have got it right, I'm sure. When I first found out about lucid dreaming, I started telling a few of my friends. This one guy said he did it all the time, so of course he didn't get very excited about it. I think those people are so lucky, I don't have much luck with lucid dreaming, but I'm gonna keep trying!

I was about to say the same thing. If he's always been able to do it, there would be no reason to be excited about it.

Sure, he could be lying, but if he's your friend, what's the harm in taking him at his word?

I'm a natural and I will never lose excitement for lucid dreaming. I do not think these people understand what lucid dreaming really is. I might be wrong, but that's just my opinion.

I think it kind of depends on the personality type of the person in question.

For instance, my personal experience with lucid dreaming... well, just dreaming in general, is I'm always very excited about it. I get on the topic with family members and friends and they don't share my enthusiam about it. My dad's a natural, and I can tell by talking to him, that he really has experienced lucid dreaming... he just kind of shrugs it off as something he does.

My boyfriend is the unfortunate soul who has to hear me going on about this day in and day out Since I joined dreamviews, he went from having zero recall upon waking up (when we first started dating, he adamantly stated that he doesn't dream!) to at least remembering one dream from the night, when he wakes up. But... he doesn't care at all. In fact, he laughs at me, because it infuriates me that he won't record his dreams. If he has a LD he'll tell me about it and he'll say, "I'll probably forget this by the end of today." I ask him why he would want to, and he just shrugs, cos he doesn't care.

Why is it a terrible RC?
Can someone explain that to me? It's the most common RC that works for me. Well, haven't had that many LDs yet, but there was only one example for the clock RC, and only when i pinched myself in the arm after looking at the clock several times ("wow it's 4pm.. now it's 6pm") i realized i'm dreaming.
I don't remember ever trying to switch lights on or off in a dream.
What do you think a good RC is?

Ok, i asked a bit more from this guy and he says he's been able to do this since he was little, like 8 years old.
Also he says it's probably because he has a good imagination. But what kid doesn't have that? I still don't remember having LDs in my childhood, only nightmares i woke up screaming from.
He says it probably started when he started watching Dragonball and other anime. He still watches them probably every day. This might be a useful info.

There nothing wrong with people who claim to be natural. If he has been lucid dreaming since 8, well, it could be true, because I had awareness during my dreams since I was 5. I remember that because I remember me having this weird dream and questioning my teachers and parents all day long, on my fifth birthday.
I doubt that he is a natural because he has good imagination, though. I think it should have the opposite effect, because he is more likely to accept the extraordinary instead of questioning it. I am the skeptic type, which I believe to be the reason why I naturally get lucid within dreams even with the slightest odd thing. If he really is lucid dreaming, ask him something he doesn't know, like perhaps how does your hand look in a dream, or what do you see in a mirror, etcetera.

Well, I think this really depends on the person. If you mean lucidity as in controlling the dream, I had no lucidity until a while ago. But if you mean lucidity as having awareness during the dream, then some people can have higher levels of awareness even when compared to a lucid. For example, I knew that I was dreaming, knew that nothing could hurt me here, and all that, but I couldn't move my body at all. Probably because I didn't know then that I could. I would just play along in the dream, with full awareness, and the most I could do is force myself awake from my more horrible nightmares.
Also, some people actually get bored once in a while from lucid dreaming, wanting to experience that care-free sensation during non-lucids. Not me though, I will never tire of it.

Oh yeah, pinching is a terrible reality check because you can feel pain even in dreams, and it can beso realistic that you will mistake it for real. Also, if your arm was numb or something, and you pinched it and felt nothing in real life, you could mistake it for a lucid. And you know the......consequences.
It's better to pinch your nose instead and try to breathe, it has not once failed for me.

I would have to say, by and large, anyone outside of this community, or that is isufficiently educated on the topic, will either think your nuts, ignore you, or smile and nod.

Before I got into lucid dreaming I used to very frequently have low lucidity LDs. That experience just doesn't compare to realizing that you are asleep and have the power to do anything you want in the dream.

My brother said the same thing when I asked him if he wanted to lucid dream. He said he knew he was dreaming but didn't want to control everything. I wanted to hit him. If you have had a lucid dream you know that you don't control every aspect. At least I don't know anyone who does.
