Lightbulb People who watch anime = more "lucid powers"?

I don't watch anime (ever.), but I've been observing something like this around the forum for quite a while. What do you think?

Please, add a comment, don't just vote. lol unless you're shy. I don't bite. Maybe the community will though.

I watched anime when I was younger and I don't recall ever using a single technique from a single show. What I do watch every so often now is a bunch of geeky sci fi movies and stuff involving any sort of magical power that I can duplicate in a lucid. So I'm a huge fan of any movie with superpowers and good special effects, like the X-men movies, Spiderman movies, Fantastic Four, stuff like that. I'd watch anime if I thought it would help, but I like seeing the live-action with good special effects more than cartoons. It makes it easier to believe that it's 'possible' for a real person to do it, and so easier to duplicate in your dreams.

I'm not gonna vote in the poll because there are no Yes, No (though I watch anime), or No (I don't watch Anime) choices.

I watch anime a lot, but i tend to get most of my powers from either esper-style sci-fi stuff and, more recently, classic fantasy and D&D wizard/sorceror powers. So I voted "Yes, I watch, but it doesn't seem to cause any increase in powers."

Watch anime, but don't think that affects the amount of powers, just the amount of ideas you get.

It certainly can work as an inspiration, though as already mentioned, movies with actual people would work better.

I used to watch anime a lot (and play a lot of RPGs), and it definately affected my dreams, but I don't think it ever helped me become lucid.
I am starting to get pretty good at LDing now though even though I don't watch anime any more.

I watch Anime, but it doesn't contribute to more Lucid powers. I agree that it influences the ideas you can get. But so can everything.

I watch anime constantly. One of the first lucid dream powers I ever had was powers of the gomu gomu fruit. Heck the next dream I had was talking to some of my favorite anime characters, I even arm wrestled Luffy. I also am currently trying to perform a perfect kamehameha wave. I got close but it was only this weird purple spiral shot.

I also find anime only influences the themes of the dreams, but never gives me super powers as a result. Movies and television shows on the other hand, often grant me the very same powers I was watching. Books give me powers as well, but not anime.

I did pick up a few physical fighting moves from dragonball z, but none of the energy attacks.

as everyone has been saying anime=help on random ideas for powers not the holy grail to lucid power

Well, conclusion is that anime can help people, but actors + special effects seem to work better (maybe they stimulate your subconscious's imagination more?)

I wouldn't say that they stimulate my imagination, conscious or subconscious (?). I just think about them while lucid, remember what it looked like, how realistic it was, I tell myself that I can do anything in a dream, and all that was was a fake movie, so obviously I can do the same thing. I wouldn't say that it's about creativity, but about confidence. Confidence I don't get by watching cartoon characters. I could, if I cared to, watch cartoons to get this. But when there are movies with great effects, why watch anime? (I really don't watch either for plot). The realism is just that much more of a confidence booster than a cartoon could ever be, personally.

Very good explanation! I agree about the confidence, I've heard from lots of people that watching a clip of the matrix is very good for lucid confidence.

I would say the majority of the 'powers' I look forward to using are more sci-fi inspired than anything else.

Not me, I remember getting shot by some anime characters with guns LOL.

I don't know, I guess it all depends on people's different types of subconscious
      minds.

It might not contribute to powers...but it helps you get awesome Dream Guides, right?!

Also, I haven't used any power from any anime that I've seen...except for flying...I guess you could consider that something from DBZ.

      Good luck
I think that the reason that I messed up the Kamehameha is that I know how to put my hands, but in the dream I was lazy and half assed it.
The gomu gomu powers worked perfectly The reason I tried it is because I just did the hand through the palm trick in what happened is that it stretched So it was obvious that the gomu gomu no pistol would work perfectly.

It's so freaken sweet when you pull it off just right.

I watch a lot of anime and usually it gives me cool ideas for scenery (but nothing will ever touch the epicness of the LOTR movies), and techniques. I don't think it's limited to anime though. As mentioned, I think that anything actiony or epic could help bring about ideas for sweet shit to do.

i watch allot of anime and due to some great anime like Bleach and Naruto i get a feeling of power. i use energy, emotion to control dreams and DC's. As a conclusion i answered "Yes, I <3 anime and am uber l33t in dreams." I never tried to use something from an anime but the idea of energy , of a force is great for dream control and pyro/telekineses

I watch anime, and if by more "powers," you mean more ideas of things I could use in my dreams, I'd say yup. My dreams are usually pretty interesting, and often contain scenarios I wouldn't have ever thought of if not for anime. It doesn't really increase my chances of being lucid, but I have a lot more ideas now because of it.

Yes, I watch, but I don't think it affects my lucidity, but somethings from animes might show up in my dreams.

Well i think, that it doesn't neccessarily give you extra powers, since one can easily imagin powers as cool as anime powers. But anime powers are a good inspirational source.
