2011 is the year I start dreaming.

      Greetings and salutations, dreamweavers.

I ran into lucid dreaming by complete accident. I always knew I could become aware that I was dreaming, and exert control over my dreams even when I wasn't lucid. I made some attempts at dream recall years ago but never got anywhere and just stopped because I had other things on my mind. I found it unbelievable, though, that other people either had no idea what I was talking about or didn't care in the least when I talk about how you can remember and control your dreams and basically experience a world only limited to and only answering to your imagination that looks, sounds, and feels real but has no consequences in reality. Kind of humorous how I always hear people predicting the human race dying when virtual sex machines are made, when you already have a free one in your mind that you don't need to take time out of your day to use. You'd think if anything THAT would get people interested...

I read up on the guides, and MasterMind's tip for dream recall helped IMMENSELY. I recall a ton in only my second night trying. You should really include that in the guides somewhere. Now the problem is getting lucid... I don't seem to notice something's up even when people are transforming into bagels so that's a problem. Time to put on that digital watch.

Anyway, enough rambling, I just meant to say hello, say thanks and ask a quick question. Does it help if you write dream journals in present tense?

Whatever you feel comfortable with writting in, I used to write in past tense for a long while, just switched to present tense, but still not accustomed. Welcome to DVs, and good to know you are on your way to lucidity!

Like Hukif said, whatever you feel comfortable with. I normally switch depending on the dream. I'm actually not sure why I switch and have never really given it thought! Hmm, that's an excellent question

Anyway, welcome to DV! Please feel free to let me know if you ever have questions or need help with anything! I'll always happily reply to your pm's if you don't want to post in the forums

      Welcome to DV!

I write the annotations in the past tense, but otherwise I write in the present tense. It just feels better for me. As said, just go for what feels the best for you.

For example (the annotation in blue): I see a pink elephant and become lucid (or then it was the elephant that became lucid).

Hello, and welcome to the site! In regards to your question, just write in the way which feels most natural to you at the time. This can even vary from dream to dream, although that might make for a difficult read. I myself usually write my dreams in past perfect tense. How's that for strange recall.

No, I don't think you tense will make a difference, it's the process of rerunning the dream in your mind that helps recall.

Welcome! I try to write in present perfect progressive (eg. have been running) most of the time.
