How come i didnt go lucid?

Hey there ! About 3 days ago i startet on trying to achive lucid dreams so i startet a dream journal to get a better dream recall (already improved on these 3 days) and i have startet to do reality checks a lot.
This night i had a dream where my remote controled car startet to drive on the walls. This isnt normal in the walking word - how come i didnt notice that and go lucid?

The logical part of our mind is turned off when we are sleeping. We have to train ourselves to notice things like this and become lucid. Though that takes time and patience. I usually become lucid because out of the blue I decide to do a RC. Sometimes though, I do notice weird things.

wow thanks for that rapid answer. So you dont just suddenly become lucid because you see something odd in your dream? and it seems like you need to make reality checks a part of your walking life so it becomes second nature - and hopefully you will do these reality checks in your dream and realize that you are infact dreaming?
Is my understanding of that correct ?

KushyBear's right, the logical part of our mind is turned off while we're sleeping which causes us to accept anything strange we see in our dreams.

Usually, one becomes lucid suddenly, regardless of what they're doing. They could be walking down a hallway that looks totally normal and become lucid. If you do become lucid "when you see something strange", it's usually because you were aware enough to notice it in the first place, and it just set the lucidity off.

I've only ever used dream signs and reality checks to confirm that I'm dreaming once I become lucid, (which IMO I think the tutorials should say that because it can get a bit confusing).

It's important not to make reality checks become second-nature because you can end up doing them over and over in your dreams, without realizing anything. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Doing reality checks over time does help with becoming lucid. What you should do, is use a completley obvious reality check, and ask yourself throughout the day, "How did I get here?" This works well, and although it may not work for everyone, it works for a few people. Also, dream signs are good, too. If you keep a dream journal, you can find them more easily.

Lucidity isn't an overnight process. I'm yet to become lucid so I know. Hopefully you don't take this post less seriously because of what I just said, but you need to keep at it. Keep doing what you are doing until it becomes a learned habit, almost like crying when sad, and laughing when something is humorous. When it becomes a learned habit, it will transfer into your dream. I also downloaded this app, to send audio to me while I sleep, telling me it is a dream. I'm yet to try it but hopefully it works. Good luck with your journal and lucidity, keep high hopes

Don't be so modest Puffin, these are the times where you should go: "And read my DILD guide, it's really good on upping your awareness!"
Because it is, ofcourse, a very good guide.

That being said Dreambird, Puffin's DILD Guide can help you up your awareness!

Since you are keeping a dream journal, you should look for dream signs. The regular oddity in a dream doesn't often trigger lucidity, but if you have something that reoccurs in multiple dreams (whether an event or vague idea) you can train yourself to do a reality check every time it happens. This way after some time you will have a long list of oddities that will trigger lucidity. Of course, you need decent recall first.

By the way, welcome to the forums!

Your mind is going to do this alot, you know, and even after you got your awareness up to a sufficient level. Even experienced oneironauts still get it, there's a thread floating around here somewhere about the stupidest way you missed becoming lucid so yeah It's not necessarily because something completely extraordinary happens in your dream, that you'll become lucid right away
