Hi, welcome to Dreamviews! Once you reach SP, it's best to continue relaxing into it and ignore any hallucinations you might be getting. If the transition doesn't seem to advance, you might have to create a dream scenario around yourself to help it along - imagine sensations like touch (a very important one, IMO), sight, and smell, and imagine yourself in a place of your choice, or doing something. It can help trick your mind into thinking you're asleep, speeding up the dream formation process.
The "insomnia" problem isn't that uncommon, I had some kind of that when I first started, too. It's as if even when I'm not trying to WILD, I'm involuntarily trying to stay awake. If you aren't attempting a WILD, try daydreaming or using other techniques that help you fall asleep faster. I find that when I keep focus on my body and even think about WILDing, it can keep me up. Stay away from that and just let your thoughts wander.
I'm not sure if it has anything to do with painkillers or a certain type of medication, but what I've written above is my personal explanation for it.
