      Dreams in 3rd person

It seems like I keep getting some of my dreams in 3rd person. It is like watching a movie sometimes. I think that lowers my chances of becoming lucid. When I'm not doing anything, just watching, I don't really have a chance at becoming lucid. It is like I am barely continuous. Does this happen to anyone else? Any ideas on overcoming?

It can be difficult to become lucid in this kind of dream. Try to be more aware during your waking hours, and hopefully that will carry over into your sleep to cause fewer of these types of dreams. Anytime you watch a movie, play a video game, or read, try to remember to bring your attention back to yourself every few minutes. Do a reality check if you have to.

This happens to me all the time. I'm working on it but haven't yet come up with a solution. It's like I'm the camera filming a movie. There Is no "ME" in the dream.

Third-person isn't a rare occurrence; lots of people including myself experience it sometimes.

For a possible solution, well, it could work as a type of reality check. Every once in a while, look around and see if you're seeing in third-person. See if there's anyone else in the room, and if there is, see if they're you. Ask yourself if you could be dreaming based on your vision. This hasn't helped me so far, because I've yet to become lucid in a third-person dream and haven't actually had a dream in that perspective for a while, but I figure it would help.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I'm not sure if that will work. I posted about this once, and people suggested I reality check whenever I find myself watching TV or whatever.

As an extra bonus, you can try to cut down on 3rd person dreams. You can watch less TV etc.

I used to have the same problem, almost every dream was in 3rd person... but, as I was getting a better recall and exercising my awareness, my 3rd-person dreams almost disappeared. Maybe there's some kind of relation...

Yea that's what I'm thinking. As you become more aware of your surroundings and doing your reality checks daily, you should start to see it decrease. I've just got back into lucid dreaming and started a new account on dreamviews for it. (I can't remember my log in info) and I have to admit I haven't had any since I started back up again. Maybe it's something that you start to grow out of with more experience and self-awareness?

Self-awareness has definitely helped me decrease the amount of third-person dreams, but I find them very interesting to recall. I wouldn't want to get rid of them entirely.

Do you think we dream in third person because we watch movies and read books? Or did we invent the third person perspective in books and movies because it is so similar to the way we naturally dream?

I never really dream in 3rd person, but I feel as if I'm an observer, watching rather than doing, or like an actor following a script. I never really think through my actions when I'm not lucid, I just do.
