      Alcohol and LD

I read on here somewhere that alcohol is not a good idea if you want to LD, I kind of agree as I never remember dreaming when I,ve had a beer, however, the following night I have amazing dreams, most of my LD are on Sun or Mon but I also have few over the weekend too, beers that is. I just wanted to know if anyone else had similar outcomes, also I tried spinning around in a dream to stabilize the dream and it woke me up, I,m getting better at going right back into my LD so was able to try t again, I didn't wake up but the dream didn't change as I've read on here, any help on that one. Thanks for reading , peace

I WILDed once when I was shitfaced. I literally put my headphones on and went straight into a dream. It felt pretty damn long to, but I freaked out during it for some reason and woke myself up. I think I lost lucidity during it and I thought I was really awake and thought I was gonna get in huge trouble for being out in the city so late. It took place in the city and I was in some giant parade. I was listening to techno and I could hear the whole song while I was lucid. It was so tight sounding. This was during high school in my senior year, so i still kinda got worried for not telling my parents i was in the city. But really, it was all a dream.

Alcohol suppresses REM, and if you sleep long enough (or the day after) it will bounce back in a REM rebound.

Alcohol is actually a great lucid aid, for me. Everyone is different. I find that it suppresses my REM in the early night when it acts as a depressant, then wakes me up automatically for a WBTB when it kicks in as a stimulant. It is not really practical to use it as a lucid aid, because the effects are so unpredictable, and dependent on too many other factors.

I actually got my first LD taking a nap to cure a hangover.

But the nights when I go to bed intoxicated I can't recall any dreams at all, sometimes not even during the following few days (atleast not with the same clarity)

      Same here!

Honestly, times when I have gotten plenty drunk, my dreams have become more wild and vivid, without having to reach too far for lucidity. It was a shame, however, that I would never record these dreams since every time I woke up, I would either be to lazy to do it, or too hung over. XD

This is the truth, even when you don't sleep long enough. Your body NEEDS REM sleep, so it will get it even when you fight it (ever fought to stay awake? Your body wins!). When you're lacking REM sleep due to a substance, not enough sleep, or too short of sleep your body will naturally fall deeper into REM the next chance it gets. Its a good way to get a lucid "quick fix," like the substance that causes it, but a healthier sleep schedule and lifestyle will actually train your body to hold onto that REM sleep and know when it is entering it - that way, your consciousness can realize when its in this state. Welcome, and good luck with the dreaming
