Thread: What Exactly is the Difference between a Dream Fragment and a Dream

Don't get me wrong, I know what a fragment means, but with my dreams... Most often I only remember parts of a dream, and these parts can be very long parts or short parts. Does it matter how long the part of the dream that you remember is in order for it to be a Dream fragment? Or does a dream fragment have to be a certain length?

And does a dream have to be a full dream that is remembered in order for it to technically be considered and put in the category of a dream?

I speak a language other than English at home and otherwise never talk about dreams or any of its terminology so I don't really know about this, among many other things.

I want to know so that I don't put my dream journal entries in the wrong category. So far each of them are put as Dream Fragments, but I'm not sure. Maybe you could try looking at the length of each dream I have on there and let me know?

I view fragments as remembered parts of dreams with no context.

If you can't make a story out of what you remember then call it a frag, If you can remember what a dream was about then it isn't a fragment.

If I have no context for the memory, I will call it a fragment. If I know there was more to the dream, but I only remember a small piece of it. Of course, it is up to you to decide for yourself. Dreams rarely have a coherent narrative. They almost never have a definite beginning and end.

Basically I call it a fragment if I know there was more but I can't remember it. Like sometimes I'll clearly remember a short part of a dream, and have tantalizing memories of something else happening, but just can't quite pull the memories out and relate them to the fragment I recall clearly.

Like those times when I wake up and at first I remember a dream, but a fre minutes later I cna only remember a little bit of it and the rest has been erased.

I call a dream a fragment if it was maybe like half of the dream that I had or maybe a significantly small part of the dream. If I can get a good amount of detail and some good length then I will call it a regular dream. But if I can't remember much like maybe a few quotes then I pretty much call it a fragment.

It all comes down to you and what you seem to be too small to be a regular dream.

My own definition of a "dream fragment" is just a piece of a dream, usually shorter in nature (hence "fragment").
