      Starting my journey, weird questions

I have yet to attempt lucidity as I have been researching it, but I may attempt it tonight if I can get some answers to some strange questions that have been bothering me.

What is the relation between astral projection/OBE and lucid dreaming? Is it possible to practice and develop both of these skills without them overlapping? I'm interested in both but do not want to not be able to control when one or the other occurs if that makes sense. Any insight at all is greatly appreciated.

You can definitly practice both lucid dreaming and OBE. Infact, learning one may even make it easier for you to learn the other. Some methods of OBE even require you to become lucid and exit from there. I hope that answers all your questions Good luck to you on your journey of mental exploration.

So it's not hard to differentiate between the two experiences?
Also, if I'm already close to succeeding at an OBE, which practice do you reccommend I start with in that case?

In my opinion, both of them are the same thing, therefore they won't overlap. If you get good at one, you will get good at the other too (which again in my opinion is all one thing) welcome to dreamviews

Thank you for the warm welcome. Why is it you believe these experiences are one in the same? Do you induce them the same way personally? Tell me more!

      Welcome to Dreamviews.

OBEs are the same as astral projections, which are induced through sleep paralysis. You can also induce a WILD (wake induced lucid dream) through sleep paralysis, so once you reach that state, with a bit of experience you'll be able to choose whether to astral project or enter a lucid dream. You can only be in one state at a time, either having an OBE or a being in a lucid dream, but if you exit a lucid dream and remain still, you might be able to directly enter into an OBE because your body could enter SP. That's really the extent of my knowledge.

There's a lot of good information in the Beyond Dreaming subforum.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.
