I would recommend Robert Monroe's work. It's a bit spiritual although when you start exploring the dream world you can't help but noticing that you start to get spiritual as well.
I mean I have experienced quite a bit now in my four years of practice but I am still not a master. What you find in the realm of your dreams is more than past memories and associations.
But all that you have to experience for yourself. You can either google search for Monroes books in PDF (or buy them) or you can start with guided instructions here:

The Gateway Experience - Wave I - 1 - Orientation - YouTube MANUAL here: Complete Hemi Sync Gateway Experience Manual

Robert Monroe approach the phenomena with a more scientific perspective but when he experience conversations in his dreams that is confirmed by his friends later on he starts his little spiritual journey, just like many others have done because of him. So I definitely recommend his books if you want to read something in depth.

But if you already have planned out your way you should try that and just ask if you have any questions

A little motivation for ya: Vivid dreams are not dependent on REM. You can WILD at any time of the day and night (provided that you can maintain aware and not be too tired).
Real is only a position or perspective. and from my dream last night (which also is in my signature now ) "Beyond your reality lies a reality of the oversparked" - No idea what it ment.

And about your disease I am not sure what it is, but a friend of mine have rsi and other stuff that he thought would prevent him from lucid dream. But he is doing fine and I think you will as well

      Good luck
