I only remember dreams if I'm disturbed during the night.

I'm new here, but I just thought I'd throw this thread out there, since it's an issue for my ability to know how well I'm doing when it comes to Lucid Dreaming.
I remembered my dream from last night, but that was because my dog woke me up. My last dream before last night was a week ago. I have disturbed my sleep purposefully, but I was informed that doing that could effect my ability to function.
I'm wondering if there are any techniques to remember my dreams and still have undisturbed sleep.

If you wake up in the middle of REM or right after it, you will most likely remember your dream. As soon as you wake up in the morning just lie still and let the dream memory come to you. Practice this for a while and you'll be able to recall more and more in time.

Another thing to add to your list of dream memory aids is keeping a journal of you dreams. This may not seem like much, but it's a way of telling your brain to start paying more attention to your dreams.
There are several ways to accomplish this, you can write out a physical journal, type one up on the site (since dream views does have that handy dandy dream journal application), or- my favorite- get a voice recorder and record yourself talking about your dreams.

Just like Matte said, laying very still right after you wake up will help you a ton.

Another tip is to start keeping a list of key words. Write down things that normally appear in your dreams, and after you wake up, just read through the list. It might just trigger a memory for you.

Once you remember even just a fragment of your dream, replay it several times in your head, this will also help uncover more of the dream.

As with everything else, take your time, rushing through any of this will not give you the full benefits.

Good luck and happy dreaming ^^
