      Hello....and problems

Hello Im new here but here it goes, I'm sure this has been asked a million times and I apologize in advance but here it goes:

I'm still new to lucid dreaming and I learned all the functions and keywords but I lied still and listened to music softly to concentrate and to keep track of time via how many songs as passed, anyway by song 5 I felt the tingle, it was scary/amazing I was thinking "Wow, This is actually working" I was in partial sleep paralysis. if could move if I truly wanted to but I didnt plus it helped me keep still. After about 45 minutes I haven't moved a muscle and music ended a while back but nothing......just me lying there not moving a bit and half paralyzed. How am I supposed to know if Im lucid dreaming or what do I do next?

      thanks in advane.

      Hey and welcome to dreamviews.

I assume you're going for a WILD, those can be difficult. Get at least a few hours of sleep before your attempt, i prefer at least 6 hours of presleep. From what i read it seems that you were too aware or even quite awake. To succesfully pull it of you have to be falling asleep. If you use music i'd suggest you give it a little less attention so that you can fall asleep while hearing/listening. Ignore what's happening to your body, the sooner you do... the faster your dream will find you. Believe me; when you're in a Lucid Dream, you will know

      Best of luck, Tucane

Try to let yourself drift off to sleep a bit more. You want to be right on the edge of falling asleep. Also, make sure your timing is right. Did you try this after 4 or 5 hours of sleep, in the middle of the night?

WILD works best when paired with WBTB or during a mid-day nap. This way you are directly entering a REM cycle whereas if you try right when you first fall asleep it is unlikely you will experience a dream, let alone a WILD. Once you get to the SP stage just stay relaxed and allow your body to drift off into sleep. The hardest part about WILD is finding the right balance of consciousness so that you don't fall asleep completely but also so that you still end up in a dream. If you can get this well then you will have no trouble with WILD.

In order to tell when you are in a dream it will be quite obvious. Sometimes you will experience HH (hypnagogic hallucinations) which are signs of a dream approaching. Most people then experience the dream form around them and slowly meld into it. Once you feel confident in the stability of the dream feel free to move but start off a little slowly so you don't wake up. Once you get to this point it is a good idea to stabilize the dream so you can anchor yourself within it. Afterwards you're free to do whatever you want

      Welcome to the forum!

It seems the posts above have given you the right advice already. Attempting WILD or SP doesn't work well when you are first going to bed at night, even if you're very tired.

Try it after a few hours of sleep as suggested or prior to a mid or late-day nap.

You can find a lot of advice on the forum and our WIKI.

We also have an intro class for beginners if you're interested in a group setting. It's quite helpful and many people have already found success with it.
