      coming to terms with reality

after attempting lucid dreams for about 4 months now i have come to terms that this method of soul/consciouse searching is simply not possible for some people to acheive. I have tried every method available to the public, read many books on said topic (aswell as books on OBE's in general) and i have had absolutley no success...i believe the problem starts with my inability to dream and trust me i know you will say "impossible everyone has dreams at one point or another you just don't remember them sometimes" well in my case this isn't true, i stopped having dreams soon after i practiced meditation. i have attempted to keep dream logs but it's hard to record something that doesn't happen. forget about LD's, is there any known whay to induce dreams in general?

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

I'm glad you found your way here, because I believe we can help you.

I'm gonna contradict you and say, that everybody dreams, unless you have some kind of a brain injury.

I'm gonna suggest a few things you can try. You may have tried some of these already, but try to wipe the slate clean and start anew.

      1. believe, that you do dream.

      2. state your intent to have dreams, to remember them. Say that out loud and in your minds as you falling asleep. Know, that it's the truth. Feel appreciation for the opportunity to have a dream.

      3. drink water before you go to sleep and every time it wakes you up for the restroom.

      4. as you wake up, don't move, don't open your eyes, don't start thinking about what you are about to do. All you think about is the dream you just had.

      5. write in your dream journal every little fragment, or just feeling from a dream. If there is none, write "I have good memory and my recall is getting better every day". It's an autosuggestion. Sooner you start believing in it, sooner it will come true.

      6. read some dream journals. Be excited about the idea of you doing same exciting things in your dreams.

      7. huge part of remembering dreams and lucid dreaming is the intent (not just a wish) and the excitement. You have to have both. You have to believe in yourself.

      8. many people took much longer to have their first lucid, so don't give up

Join a class in DV academy for some personalized guidance. Or just post your questions in the forums.

I have no doubt that you will start remembering your dreams soon and have lucid dreams. Good luck

Go to bed early and sleep then record your dreams and even if you might not remember much now, nobody does in the beggining really, well I promise you that you will after some time.

If you don't have REM and don't dream, well then you would be very weak after just a few weeks and after about half a year you would die

So if that's not your case, then I promise you that you dream more than you think

      This might help: http://www.dreamviews.com/f15/if-you...ams-try-93005/

Sorry for making commercial for my own thread X . X But if it didn't helped as many people as it have done I wouldn't do that..

My friend said something similar when I tried to teach him to remember his dreams, "You say that everybody dreams, but I PROMISE you that I don't" and I said "Ok just try this one night (the link) and tell yourself while going to bed that you want to remember your dreams).
Next day.. "OMG it worked tonight I had dreams". And I said "Good But you always dream you just don't remember it".

      Sweet dreams

i Went to a "sleep doctor" at the Northern Virginia Sleep Diagnostic Center back in early 2008 and after a few tests it was determined that almost all if not all of my sleep was done in the NREM stage. I never actually entered the REM stage of sleep but then again this test was only done a few times so to say with certainty that i never enter the REM stage would be foolish. I was told this is very rare but not a bad thing due to the fact that not everyone's brain chemestry is the same. As far as keeping detailed dream logs to try and promote ddreams to happen...been there and tried that, it's gotten to the point of frustration actually hindering the process. However "Mastermind" i will give your dream recall process a try, but without powerfull hallucinogens i don't see myself having much success. Thank you anyway though i will report my results and maybe something can be discovered from there.

We do have dreams in NREM also. Unless sleep doctor told you, that you don't. In that case, sorry to hear that.

well that really depends on what stage of NREM sleep you are in...considering there are 4 stages in this one cycle of sleep each one a different level of consciousness in theory yes you can dream in NREM sleep but you are not very likely to remember it upon awaking (So i have read). and i didn't see a Dream Doctor i saw a Sleep Doctor, most of our conversations weren't based on dreams they were based on methods of falling asleep. however i really wish i went further in my interests into dreams at the time, i might not be here posting in this forum now...but they do say everything happens for a reason

Wow, I have no idea how you got to this conclusion, but it is offensive.

You came here for help and and I'm doing my darndest to do so, because everybody here loves their dreams and I feel bad for you, if you can't dream or remember your dreams.

i edited the post to remove that statement minutes after posting it, to avoid it sounding offensive. Apparently not soon enough. I sincerely apologize for said statement. The only reason i included that statement in the original post is because i mistook your reply "Unless sleep doctor told you, that you don't. In that case, sorry to hear that." as arrogant disbelief...i understood almost immediatly after that you weren't implying this, which is the reason i edited the post in the first place. Again, i made a mistake and i apologize

Thank you, apology accepted. I ment what I said with genuine concern, that if sleep doctor told you that you don't dream, I can't argue with that and then I guess there is nothing to do. At least, there is nothing I can suggest, that would make you dream again.

But seriously, we do dream in NREM also. Those are not as vivid or detailed as REM dreams, and we may not remember them as well as REM dreams, because you don't usually wake up after NREM, as opposed to REM.

I'm not sure if mantra "I wake after each dream and remember it" would work, or if gentle alarm, that would wake you up from NREM would help. It's up to you, if you would like to try. Good luck.

      Welcome to the forum!

I'm curious, imnotagod, what sort of effects does the lack of REM sleep have on you and your health? Did you notice anything that prompted you to seek out a sleep doctor?

extreme restlessness. and when i finally do sleep i always wake up feeling tired almost zombie like, usually more tired then i was when i originally went to sleep...I went to see the Doctor because my significant other at the time believed i was showing signs of insomnia. I was assured that my case was Rare but not necessarily a bad thing, it's just that my brain chemistry is "different". i was Given a Prescription for Sonata after a few tests over the course of 3 days and sent on my way...i must say i felt rather kicked to the curb but insurance doesn't typically cover visits to Sleep Clinics so i only made a few visits.

and Gab the good doctor told me all conscious organisms have dreams, however not everyone/everything has the ability to recall them...i want to think i do dream every now and then, even if it is only once a month. i refuse to be the first human being to totally lose the ability to dream lol

You do dream, every night. A lot of people don't remember them. Just read some of the stuff on the forum, you'll remember them soon and then you can start lucid dreaming.

      Imnotagod...Welcome.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I wish I had anwsers for you. But there are a lot of suggestions here that may give you some help.

I do remember my own frustration after trying everything to lucid dream and feeling like I was getting nowhere. I even came to the conclusion that lucid dreaming was a bunch of BS and that the people here were all making things up (Soooo sorry again, everyone ) But then the day I had this all figured out I had my first lucid dream. So don't give up. You may be surprised.

If you can't remember a whole dream, do you remember fragments of it? Could be as brief as just a scene or an image but at least you're remembering something. I would like to ask how many hours do you sleep a day or how many hours can you sleep a day? Some people have problems with sleeping more.

Mastermind's method works extremely well from my experiences with it. It is a great tool I use to give myself a reassurance that it will be an eventful night when it comes to dreaming. I'm convinced that if you really spend your time on it you will not be disappointed. Some other tips are repeating to yourself that you will remember your dreams, switching around your sleeping pattern, and trying not to move after you wake up and think hard. If all else fails, research the WILD technique. It has nothing to do with remembering dreams, and as an added bonus most people find that using this technique produces very vivid dreams.
