Welcome to Dreamviews!
I could be wrong, but the sounds could be happening as you falling asleep, just before you actually fall asleep. They are most likely sounds of your body falling asleep. People normally don't notice them, because your mind falls asleep at the same time as your body does.
But if for some reason your mind is still awake when your body starts to shut down, you can hear, feel or see all kinds of stuff. They are called hypnagogic hallucinations (HH). Google them and see, if they resemle what you experience.
When we try to induce lucid dream via WILD, we do notice these HH. I guess same thing could happen, if you have lot's on your mind and you are still awake, while your body is shutting down to sleep. These sounds could be scary, especially if you don't know what is going on. Do you think this is what's causing your panic?
Paralysis (SP), or REM attonia, happens to us every time we dream. It keeps us from acting out our dreams. But it starts after we fall asleep, so normally you don't notice it, even when you WILDing and watching your body fall asleep. So unless you having SP regularly, you should not notice it while inducing WILD lucid dreams.
But if by "everything freezes" you mean that you can't move, no matter how hard you try and that's when panic starts, that could be SP. SP is often accompanied by panic.
After you read a few posts here, you will see, that there is nothing to be embarassed about. Hope this helps a little.
