      Hai! :D

Hey guys, I'm new to lucid dreaming, and after a couple of days of looking around the site, I figured I might as well register.

Basically, I've had, according to anyone else I know, "Epic dream recall". I'm nowhere near as good as all the experienced people on the website *sadface*, but remembering at least 1 extremely long vivid dream every night, with no knowledge of lucid dreaming, or any techniques, was pretty good compared to most people. However, over the past 9 months or so, I have had really bad insomnia therefore, I hadn't been able to have as many dreams.

I find out about lucid dreaming just over a month ago on another website, and somehow, I managed to get rid of the insomnia. It took a while, but I think all the relaxation stuff helped So I guess the reason I decided to join this site was because I got really stressed out over Christmas for a few weeks and didn't sleep. But now I'm all ready to give this a go. One thing that has made me not want to give up is that:

      1. I became lucid for about 30 second in a dream, got really excited, but lost control.-.- So I really want to become good at this.
      2. It has always been my dream to fly XD

So I hope I get some good tips off you guys! See you around the forum

      Thanks

It was awesome. Like, the whole way through the dream, I had been saying to myself "That's stupid, I'm in a dream." And on like, the 30th time, I actually realized I WAS in a dream. XD

I should have realized earlier. But then I got really excited and tried to change the scenery and stuff, so I lost control. Also, good luck to you to on having lucid dreams in the future! (I'm guessing that you haven't had any because you're new. If not, good luck anyway )

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

      ...and fly you will!

Flying is among first 2 most requested activities in LD. It must be some instinct or something. It sure feels good. Let us know if you need help. BTW, check out the Dream Control - Can you fly/how did you learn post for more info about flying. Happy flight

your new to lucidd dreaming? cool! but i must warn you about your first Lucid dream. im no expert or anything, but you might experience what i experience. most people do on the first one, is what ive heard. so here's what happened, i was non lucid for about 2 minutes, i saw strange versions of people i knew, and suddenly i realized i was dreaming. i wasn't 100% sure as to if i were dreaming or not, but i had quite a bit of control. i tried to fly by pouncing off the ground, and i sat there and floated. i got over exited and woke up. My point is, your first lucid dream, you will get over exited and wake up. i posted about it and people told me not to even worry about the possibility of waking up. just saying, so your first lucid will last more than mine did. good luck to you

Thanks! But it might be a week or more if I need any help, because I'm still trying to get into the routine of DJ'ing and RC's.

I can tell why. Being able to fly would be pretty epic. What's the other most requested activity?

Yeah I have a list of things I want to be able to do, like skydive from space, survive a zombie apocalypse, go into an episode of Family Guy, and stuff like that. It might take a while to be able to do them but I figured it's best to be prepared so I can at least remember one goal from my current list of 30+, when I have a lucid dream.

Pardon me for laughing but Hahaha!
That is the last thing you should be attempting to do.

It is an amazing experience; knowing that nothing around you is real, yet you can see it, and you can touch it. There really are no limits (besides the confounds of your own mind). I can personally testify that it is possible to be completely "awake", conscious, and aware, inside a perfectly vivid, colorful, and full detail, full resolution dream. It looks and feels ENTIRELY REAL. I have run my hand across the grass, and felt the individual blades of grass. I have seen my fingerprints in detail. I have felt the wind on my face, counted the stars, reversed time, viewed the world in 360 degrees, not to mention every super-power you can think of, and of course pervy things too...
My favorite activity is opening drawers and cabinets and doors, to see what is inside.

I encourage you. It's a very tricky thing. Some people can pick it up in no time, with no effort. Others can perform several techniques for months before achieving lucidity within a dream.

I know, I just couldn't help myself XD

I kind of need some advice though. I've been trying to recall my dreams for the past week or so, but it isn't really working. It feels weird because I'm so used to having dreams (Even if they are non-lucid) all the time. Do you think this is just due to stress? (I had an exam last week and I didn't really sleep much.)

I'm back into a normal sleeping routine- Well, kind of. I'm ill today and I was up all night. I can see why I'm maybe not dreaming now XD

Anyway, is there any thing you recommend to start dreaming more often? I heard drinking a glass of apple juice before going to bed helps, but I haven't tried it yet. Any advice is appreciated

Alright, I know this sounds really lame, but please trust me.
      Dream journal.
I don't know how it works, or why it works. I could give you some theories, but the important thing is that it works.
Keep a notebook (I use a wireless keyboard, with notepad open, so that I don't even have to open my eyes) next to your bed. As soon as you wake up, even in the middle of the night, grab it and write down as much as you can, as fast as you can. You don't even have to read it later.
It takes willpower. If you just barely wake up from a dream, your first instinct is going to be to roll over and go back to sleep. Writing in some journal is the last thing that you're going to want to do, but it's WORTH IT. It works.
I know that the others will have some more tips for you. I only give advice from what I know for sure, from my own experience.

Okay, I'll keep trying. I know that when I did keep a dream journal for a week or 2, the amount of dreams I had immediately went up in about 2 days. My only problem now is that I can't remember my dreams. Hopefully in a week or so I'll be back into a regular sleeping pattern and I'll get better at remembering them. Thanks anyway

That should improve with the dream journal too. The truth is that most likely the amount of dreams you had did not go up; only your recollection of them. It is my understanding that a dream journal does not increase the amount of dreams you have, but instead increases your dream recall. Though, I would accept criticism or skepticism on this point.

Yeah that's what I mean when I say that I had more. I just usually word it wrong. But yeah, I mean how many dreams I remember

EDIT: I also figured I could give Dream Cartography a go. I'm pretty creative so I can remember what the places looked like/where they were etc. So I'm going to start a map and see how it goes.

I would advise you to not jump into anything heavy right away. Lucid dreaming is an extremely volatile state. I guarantee that you'll have a lot more fun and experience, and stronger lucid dreams, by just looking at things. I mean REALLY looking at them. Seriously, find an object and look at it REALLY close, and note how much detail there is.
I can't take notes, and I cannot ensure that I will remember the actual details of a dream, so I say things out loud, in the dream: "I can see thousands of blades of grass.", "The apple tastes like a pear.". I once leaned into a wooden coffee table, and while I don't actually remember what the details of it were, I remember saying "The wood grain does not look right. It is too uniform and the pattern resembles a bullseye."

So would doing that IRL help too? Like if I notice small details of things, I will be more likely to realize that they are different in a dream?

Actually, I believe it would. It should actually act as a dream sign, without the actual sign. You would get into the habit of looking at things closely. Eventually, you'll find yourself looking at something closely, and notice that it doesn't look right, and suddenly realize that you are in a dream.
      Yeah...
...I think that is actually a great idea.

My favorite reality check/dream sign is the toilet, because it's always best to make sure you're not dreaming... beforehand...
