      New here! With questions.

Greetings everyone, glad I found this forum! I'm Derek and never heard of the term lucid dreaming until a few months ago. Naturally I was eager to try. During this time I think I have made a few steps toward my first actual lucid dream. Once I believe I had a DILD but the excitement woke me up in two seconds. Since then I experienced a single episode of sleep paralysis, but again the excitement that I was about to (maybe) LD made the sensation go away. A few recent dreams I've noticed I have been "thinking" more, including one where I was stuck on the top of a skyscraper on a bright sunny day (it's winter) and thought to myself "if I was having a lucid dream I'd be able to get down." Ironic huh?

There are a few questions I'd like to ask the community. To help with reality checks, I've enlisted someone to spontaneously ask me a few times a day "Are you dreaming?" prompting me to perform one. Is this a good idea? Second question; how necessary is it to lie on your back to induce a lucid dream?

Thanks for all your time and help, and I look forward to being a part of this forum!

      Welcome Renfreak

Ahaha yeah, just this night I had a thought in the lines of "wow, this guy is contacting me after such a long time, maybe I'm dreaming" but I got distracted before I could do a reality check!

About reality checks: yes that's a very good idea. Even though at some point you want to spontaneously ask yourself if you're dreaming, external aids are very helpful, especially when you're starting out. So keep that person near you because even when you become profident at lucid dreaming, she might grant you extra lucids.

About WILD: this depends a lot, and depends totally on the person performing it. You want to perform a WILD after at least a few cycles of sleep (the sooner you try, the longer you have to wait until you enter in REM), so something in the lines of 4:30 or 6 hours after you go to bed This is because the more sleep you get before your attempt, the sooner you enter in the dream. This is of course assuming that you can relax and let go all anxiety, because those are the mains reasons you can do a WILD faster or slower. You also shouldn't be aiming to "I must do a WILD I must do a WILD" but let go of all thoughts and simply get confortable which will allow you to fall asleep. Thinking how long it should take will just make you think about the time you're laying there, and that doesn't help at all!

Hope this helped, and hope to see you around with more questions and experiences about your first stable lucid dream

Trying out MILD? This is how you become skilled at it.

Welcome to Dream Views! This is the place to be for anyone wanting to learn how to lucid dream. The Dream Guide team is here to help you navigate the forum and answer questions. We all have 3 green stars above our avatar. Click on our user name and you can then select private message if you have a question, or you can start new threads. Don't worry about starting threads that have been started before, just try it out, if it ends up in the wrong place one of us can move it for you.

One thing you can do in a post is place a link to another thread. I have done this below. You can click on the colored words to see the new thread. Start with this extra basic one, it will help you read the acronyms in other posts, Help With Acronyms For Complete Beginners

After that one the very first thing you should do is check out basic tutorials. This one covers most of the terms you will see members using in much more depth, so start here, The Beginner's Guide to Lucid Dreaming

Also be sure to check out the DVA Dream Views Acadamy, click on this link to get there, DV Academy.

Matte , our Dream Guide team leader runs a general lucid dreaming class, and you can join in contests where you gain points for dreams you have. General Lucid Dreaming (Matte87)

Gab , another Dream Guide runs a class that is very valuable to beginners on MILD/DILD, which is by far the best method to start with. DILD (Hukif and gab)

Finally as far as the DVA stuff goes, there is a class on introduction to lucid dreaming. This is a great place if you are just starting out and need a little personal help. Intro Class (OpheliaBlue, RareCola, CanisLucidus, Chimpertainment, Xanous)

I hope to save you some time by giving you a link to a thread we all put together on the topic Sleep Paralysis. There has been so much misinformation and confusion on this topic, that after a few days on the sight, you would surely run into confusing statements refering to SP. Save yourself some frustration and read this post if you want to know about SP, Sleep Paralysis Explained

Now, on the lighter side, you may be excited to learn to fly! Here is a thread where people explain how they went about learning to fly, Can U Fly/ How Did You Learn?

Then just for a laugh here is a thread where people list all the things they want to do in an LD. It is mostly light hearted and supposed to be funny, 1000 things to do in a lucid dream!!!

Have fun and good luck with your dreaming!
Peace Be With You. Oh, and sure, The Force too, why not.
