Being a freshman...

Just finished my first week in high school. It doesn't seem so tough yet. Although I DID get lost once. It's a much bigger school than my former tiny middle school. Getting up at around 5:00 is.... actually nice. It's really quiet, I can see the sun beginning to almost rise, good stuff. On the other hand, I can never get to my locker, so I carry EVERYTHING in my backpack. It's heavy and I can barely fit into my seat on the bus. This might take some getting used to...

Goddamn, seems like yesterday I was a freshman. Well, it is what you make of it...so don't forget to fuck around a little. Just a LITTLE! How much time do you have between classes? I used to do that, but trust me, you just can't keep that up. You'll be having back issues, depending on how much shit they gave you to carry around (and it seems most teachers give no thought whatsoever to how much weight they're throwing at you in light of the fact that there's 6 or 7 other teachers doing the same). You just need to work out when you're close enough that you can hit the locker. At the very least you need to go before lunch, but work out when you can go without being marked late. It helps, too, when you've got a textbook or two, to carry those in your hands (despite what Don Juan would have you think, it's no big deal).

I vaguely can remember when I actually brought my books to and from class. Towards the end of high school, I would just leave them in places where I knew no one would go, and it saved me a lot of headaches since the senior lockers were in the student union which was actually really far from the classes. I have no idea how I passed, now thinking about it.

I remember my first time. I was told alot that with my attitude, I would get beaten up alot. And as I walked inside, I saw these guys hanging out around at the gates from like the 6 or 7th class (don't know what grade it is, here it starts from 1st then goes to 6th in elementary and then again from 1st to 6th with a additional 7th year in middle school) They kept watching me, I was going paranoid lol. But back then I was prettty skinny... I've gotten alot more muscles over the years and some mass. Many people tell me I have a pretty intimidating facial expression... A good friend of mine even told me that he didn't even dared to look at me the first time he saw me cos he tought I would otherwise beat the shit out of him lol.

I'm in my last year of high school, but I remember my first time stepping into that totally different area of the school and thinking, "oh my god, there's three stories of rooms and my lockers are on the first floor." It was pretty intimidating. I'm assuming you have breaks, or something? If so, at the beginning of the day, bring the books needed for your first few classes (before a break), and then during this break you can swap books. It's always easier to carry a light amount of stuff in your bag.

High school... disturbing times. I'm a junior at the moment but I've already had enough of the place so I'm dual enrolled at the local college. Winning!

Oh man, this brings back memories! I think a couple people mentioned this already but what I did in high school was just take what I needed for my periods 0, 1, and 2 classes, and then traded out at break for my 3rd and 4th periods, and then at lunch for 5th and 6th. That way I usually only had to carry two books, but I wasn't racing back and forth to my locker during passing period. Good luck!

Anyway, know it seems stupid but you will know what I mean after a while. Also don't be afraid to try new things. You're only in High School once, might as well hook up with a few girls, party a bit, smoke some weed and get some nice grades. So far, that is the only reason why I wake up in the morning for school. edit: ...but remember to not over do it either.

And if someone offers you drugs and you feel like you need to take them to fit in, weed or something worse, don't do it because these people are not your friends if you have to be made to do something just to hang out with them.

I never said that its a good thing to do drugs to fit in. Marijuana usage for me was always a personal choice. But I definitely agree with you that you need to make your own choices (wise ones preferably. ) and find friends that like you for who you are. Peer pressure is honestly terrible; both to get someone to do something and to give into doing something.

I was mainly replying to dakotahnok's post, but I do realize that using marijuana is fine as long as you aren't goaded into using it. And, of course, moderation. I've been going to the same school for a little over 11 years now, hoping for 12 come the end of this year, and I've tried really hard not to give into peer pressure. It probably makes me look like a loner. No, I'm positive it's made me look like a loner. I've never been friends with the (apparently increasingly) popular students but at the end of the day, and at the end of high school, I'm sure I'll be looking back and saying, "I tried my best and even though I might not have made a good impression on people, I wasn't willing to conform to meet their ideals." That's one of the best choices you can make in school, imo.

High school sucks because you're a teenager and you're all screwed up hormonally and you're hung up on having some sort of relationship with someone else but you're too young for it to actually work out 99.9% of the time and you're too old to want to listen to your parents but too immature to know what's good for you and your peers are all self-absorbed jerks who want to ruin your life unless you're one of the Chosen Ones. Actually, I didn't mind high school so much, even though I was a huge weirdo loner loser. My real bad years were middle school.

I have only had a few lucid dreams so far, but getting high is very different from dreaming. I think it's a total matter of personal preference and there is no right or wrong answer here. It is illegal, so take that into consideration, but it is also much less harmful to your system than alcohol, so *shrug*. Also, this thread got so off track How did we get from talking about locker-usage to debating the pros and cons of marijuana?? Hahaha. P.s. @Spartiate: It doesn't effect your career options at all, as long as you don't get caught
