Can't find a good sitting position

Well, this thread might be a little pointless, but I don't find it pointless enough to go to senseless banter.

Now to the thread. I'm having trouble finding a good position to sit, while on my brand new laptop. My usual position is having the laptop on my lap, while sitting on the couch. But after a while my neck starts to hurt and I worry that it will in a long time damage my neck.

So I could use some help. Give me some tips, comment and discuss.

Cross-legged, balancing the two bottom sides of the laptop on your knees... It's actually really comfortable IMO.

Or, lie on your stomach with the laptop in front of you. That's not good for long sessions though, your back might hurt after an hour or so.

Put the laptop on a table and sit yourself down on a chair. Do not lean back while using it.

I suggest laying in bed with the laptop on your stomach.

Kidding, don't do that. It's terrible. I second Marvo.

The best sitting position can be achieved with a 120/135 degree incline and your feet on the floor.

According to Scottish and Canadian researchers, anyways.

So, do that, and put your laptop on your lap.

It almost seems like that position would be weird on one's neck.

      OK, Thanks.
      I'm going to sit cross-legged.
Marvo, good idea but I prefer sitting on the couch.

Wow Mzzkc. That position- while perhaps beneficial in the long run- would drive me insane very quickly

I use the same sitting position for everything. When I had a laptop I used it at a desk as I do my PC. My right foot is always under my butt. My left is almost always bent where I rest my left armpit at times. My right arm rests on the desk. I'm hunched over in a major way.
I'm going to be one of those hunched-back old women but I seem incapable of changing my habit.
My hubby uses that recommended sitting posture for driving, but for that, I sit at 90 degrees. My lower back hurts on long drives though.

VERY interesting link. Thanks for sharing it

I ALWAYS used to sit pretty much that way too, in school and everything, haha. I don't really use a desk when I'm on the computer anymore, but my legs are often in the same position.

The ways I like to sit are generally really bad for my back/neck I think x: They're usually really weird and awkward looking too. So I can't really help you lol. I like the study too though I don't think I have a chair that would support my back in that position.

I'm so happy to read of someone else with similar sitting habits

When I was in school, or now-a-days when I have to be in most public places, I cross my legs (left over right) then cross them again (left under right). I've never been able to sit like a "normal" person

I used to sit, well, if you can call it that, by just standing on a chair and crouching, barely even touching the chair with my butt. It was... really awkward. But I've since ditched that habit.
