To be fair, exposing your brain to drugs on a regular basis at a young age is not very intelligent to begin with. That's why I believe in an 18+ regulation, at least for purchasing. I think it's okay that young people also get to drink and smoke, if they want to, just not too much.

It's hardly a surprise that stewing a developing brain in psychotropics has negative effects. The other side of that study is that adult-onset use, even if habitual, has no lasting impact on IQ, though as UM pointed out if you go chronic for even a week or two, it can take nearly as long to get fully un-stoned.

I saw that story the other day as well. Note the way it says 'Habitual', i.e. "not occasional or recreation use". In other words, you have to smoke A LOT of dope to actually start seeing some negative side effects.


Personally, I think the world would be a far better place if everyone from housewives to politicians lit up a fatty once in a while.

Ever been in the drinking district and seen someone intoxicated acting like an ass? Public intoxication isn't for those who behave...it's for those that can't behave while intoxicated. A way to get people off the street when you have no other charge.

Sort of like charging prostitutes with jay-walking.

I honestly don't understand what you are saying. Why do you need a law to stop people from doing something that is already illegal? If you are in the street, making a racket, generally being a nuisance, you are breaking the law. We don't need to forbid drinking to stop that.

All of this is coming from a person who lives in the best country in the world, where we don't have laws that forbid public intoxication.

Public Intox is not for people acting like an ass, it's for people endangering themselves or others. If someone is passed out on a highway, that's when you give them public intox. If they're just being drunk, the police have no place to interfere. People get drunk sometimes, deal with it.

I hate my fucking state, this girl I know cut herself while she was drunk so her friends called the paramedic to stop her from bleeding to death and the cops gave her a public intox once she was in the ambulance. They are the biggest fucking assholes ever.

wow, that's pretty damn evil.

Public intox means a whole different thing in the US. you can't even drink outdoors in most places. This Czech girl I know said that the US was a police state. Her reason: "you can't drink anywhere". Not even in the park.

Pretty odd by European standards.

The law in Norway states that you can't drink in places where you can be easily seen from public places. So it's technically illegal to drink in your own garden, if it can be viewed from the road.
