      Tell me how to not think deeply about EVERYTHING

      since i was yea high to the knee of a grasshopper i've looked past the outside of things and into all the nitty gritty details that have a tendency to drive you insane if you think about them too much...

      for instance,

      say a girlfriend doesn't text back, i sit there for hours constantly turning over a million possibilities about why she didn't.

      is her phone dead?
      is she dead?
      is she mad?
      did she get mad at me and wreck because she was distracted?
      is she in trouble?
      did she get arrested?
      did her grandma die?
      is she cheating on me?
      did i piss her off?
      for hours...

      but it's not just with girls, no it's anything.
      anything makes that shit happen.
      the thought of what a computer is,
      is a computer kind of like another world?
      different laws govern a computer than the ones that govern the world i deal with.
      i think about how small we might be.
      cause we don't really know how big shit can get.
      we don't know anything and i seem determined to figure it all out by thinking, but many of these problems are trivial because they're so important if that makes sense. there's no point, i will fail trying to figure this shit out, so why think about it?
      quantum shit... there is nothing to base anything on.

      it just start thinking and then i don't stop until i get too stoned or sometimes i just go to sleep to kill the shit going on in my head. and i dream. damnit.

      anyway, how do i make that stop?

      i guess i want to be one of the shallow ass holes i've spent my life hating.

      sometimes I will remember people I talk to, and I wonder if there dead or not,(in fact at least 1 time everyda)

      I usually come off as bat-shit insane when I do.

      My advice to the OP: Tell yourself to not worry about things beyond you, and realize that to think about all possibilities will make your mind drown in a sea of infinite potentiality, which could be bad for your mental health. Try to say "fuck it" every once in a while.

      Well I don't know if you can. I've had this problem a few times. My mind just goes off and it's ridiculous. Doesn't happen as much now as when I was on my meds for ADD, that was insane. But yeah even when you stop thinking about deep shit it tends to pop back into your head again and thus the viscious cycle continues.

      The only way to solve this would be to silence your mind. And seeing as how that's easier said than done I would suggest getting into meditation perhaps? That's a pretty good way to clear the mind so they say.

      lysergic, im the exact same, and ive not been able to stop it. i suppose i dont really want to get rid of it, but i kind of dont like it sometimes. but it is the main part of my personality, so, i would completely change if i got rid of it. i dont know about you.

      I use to meditate, when I was off my ADHD medicine, now I am back on it, and I cant, it makes me impatient..

      I have the same problem but I don't really mind, But I find the one thing that helps the most in certain situations... For example the example you gave, there is no point in figuring out why she didn't pick up the phone all you should say to your self is what ever happened or what ever is the reasons it already happened so if you think about it for a second there is no need to get all anxious about, But as I said it depends this for me it works in certain situations for instance the one example you gave about the computer I find you can't use this Idea of mine. So yea I hope I was helpful

      That is ANXIETY, probably in the form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which is what analytical people experience when they have anxiety. There is medication for it, but aerobic exercise, meditation, and other natural things (like orgasms) can help a great deal.

      Some of what you described is just your analytical nature and is okay. It is only a problem when it comes with anxiety.

      I second what Universal Mind said.
      I tend to do exactly as you describe. But I also sometimes have extremely morbid/dark thoughts which include me being tortured, raped and killed (well, they tried to kill me but seldom succeeded). They plagued my thoughts since I was a teen and I would spend hours in my imagination thinking of different plots. But the fantasies always made me feel dirty and guilty.
      About 8 years ago I finally decided I had had enough. It took a LOT of effort but I finally broke the habit. I told myself: "Shut up brain!" whenever the thoughts would start. I was amazed when I had to catch myself several times a minute! And it took several months to accomplish.
      A couple months ago, the thoughts started back up. I entertained them for a day but after that, I put a stop to it. But, like a drug, it's highly addictive and if I give in again, it will probably be harder to stop. And it hit hardest when I was under severe anxiety and depressed.

      Perhaps you're like that too. If you're under strain, do you have the problem more?
      Try telling your brain to shut up and STOP the thoughts the second they start. It's not easy, by any means, but it can be done.
      If you find you're life is being disrupted because of them, though, you may benefit from medication and/or counseling. Regardless, it takes effort, but it makes the fight a little easier (I've been on meds for several years now and it has greatly improved my life).

      This kind of happens to me...so many thoughts, and so deep and analytical...I try to slow it down. It can be distracting. I guess just try exercise, outdoors, plenty of contact with friends - social bonding and fun seem to help me.

      learn to meditate! you dont want to stop questioning things completely, what you want is to be able to control your thoughts in a healthy way! not only that but meditation can help you do so much more for yourself! i didnt quite understand what meditation was until after watching this video, so hopefully you might make some use out of it too!
