      I'd Hate to be God

First off, sorry if this is in the wrong place. It doesn't seem religious enough (as you will see later) to be in the Religion section, nor does it seem worthy of Extended Discussion. But it doesn't belong in Senseless Banter I think because I am actually being serious in my thoughts here. So sorry if this should be somewhere else.
Also, the God discussed in this is the typical omnipotent omniscient omnipresent God that most people think of when they hear "God."

      ANYWAY.

I would hate to be God. I would just hate it. There are so many reasons. I'd hate to be eternal. I mean, 100 years seems daunting enough for a time to live. I'm rather lazy, and I'm sure I'll eventually run out of stuff to do. So existing for an eternity? I'd go crazy after 1000 years. It just seems boring.
Making it worse would be having nothing to do. I'm normally a funny guy, but when told to say something funny, I just can't think of anything. If given omnipotence, I'd get everything I really want to do done is less than a week. Then what?
Part of the joy of baking brownies is working hard and doing it wrong, but still getting moderately ok brownies. If I could just poof myself some brownies, they wouldn't be as good. Everything would end up just becoming so boring because the challenge would be gone. What's the point of doing anything if everything requires no effort?
Also, omniscience would make me sick because I'd run out of things to ponder.

      tl;dr
I don't believe in God, but if he exists, I pity the fact that he is omnipotent and omniscient. And I'd hate to be him. What do you people think?
I don't usually think, therefore I mostly am not.

If you were omnipotent, you could make it where you love it. You would be able to do anything you want, so giving your self pleasure and fun would be something you could do. In fact, you could give yourself infinite levels of pleasure and fun and keep them for eternity. If you couldn't, it would mean you are not infinitely powerful.

That is where the theories on everyone being apart of god come in. Some people really believe that, that god split himself into millions of people, so that he could experience every thing in the world, from different perspectives, none of which knows everything. They believe when you die, you rejoin the group consciousness.

I'd say you're just not thinking creatively enough.

I hope that is the case.

What if you are God experiencing yourself as a human? I guess that would solve the problem?

What if God didn't want to be God anymore? What if he went on vacation and that is why he created this Universe in the first place? Like some people said here, what if God is Panentheistic?

If I were God, I would create a glorified Sims game to amuse me, which might occasionally morph into Age of Empires. Wait...

I pick up a half-eaten copy of a book by Neil Gaiman, and decide this is all his fault.

Why are you worrying about it? God doesent exist. So whoever is out there he's safe because he never existed in the first place. So whats the point in this thread, really? Im not trying to start a religous argument with you, believe what you will.

I don't think you should say that god doesn't exist and expect other people to stop this thread just because you said it. The point of this thread is to discuss what it would be like to be able to do anything, forever. "God" is just a handy way of saying it, although religious people may think of it as actually being God. I'm not religious myself, but i'm not going to go around telling people he doesn't exist and expecting them to quit everything to do with him. I suggest you be a little more open-minded.

I think being God would be rather lonely... Although watching the world would be fascinating!

It's more of a though experiment, like asking people what they would do if they found 18 billion dollars on the sidewalk or asking what someone would do if they woke up and were like Edward Scissorhands.
I don't usually think, therefore I mostly am not.

Off topic: If I found 18billion dollars on a pavement, I'd change it into pounds and then go buy stuff and give alot to charity, of course

I don't like to think about eternity. Because something like this is what I "believe" will happen after I die.
I don't believe that I will be omniscient, but that I will be able to do anything, limited by my imagination - Which would mean something like an Eternal but real-as-life Lucid Dream.
Maybe I'd forget stuff that I did 7000 years ago and just start to do them again? I'd be quite comfortable in my own copy of this world. For how long, I dunno, I guess the attraction lies in the freedom and the ability to just entertain myself with absolutely anything I can think of. Eternity is a long time...

But it's also a long time to think of a purpose and a reason, a meaning. And then hopefully I'd be able to go on from there.

I really, really often fantasize about what I'd do in a world where I was omnipotent, and I've come up with massive amounts of ideas, but I never wrote them down, so I remember only a fraction of them all. After all, if this does happen, I'll have plenty of time to come up with them again :V

Just because you're a devout atheist doesn't mean everyone else is. I happen to be an agnostic, and this is one of the topics I think about whenever I'm bored (the topic of existence/religion/god(and if somebody has a complaint that I didn't capitalize the word god, it happens to not be a typo. I think of it more as a title than a name, and plus, if I was omnipotent, I would not care if someone capitalized my name/title.)). And your typos don't add anything to your post.

Being god is only boring to you because you are limited as a human being. Obviously being god you wont have any human chararistics, you're god, not a human. Our brain can only handle so much, god can handle everything because he is god. It's impossible to know if you will be bored or not being god because you can't stop thinking like a human with our limited minds.

Hmmm... yeah that shines a new light on things! I didn't think about it that way! I guess he did get bored though, just pondering around in darkness. Isn't that why he created the universe?

I never got taught the actual bible. Just at school when I was a kid and we had to sing cheesy hymes *shudders*

Ok, this has been bugging me for a ling time,

what is up with everyone personifying god? Everyone talks about god as if it's a human-like entity floating around the cosmos. You can't say you'd be bored as god, because boredom is a part of the human mind in the physical realm which there is not even a concept of on the level of experience/conciousness that god would exist on.

Take the traditional Christian view of god. It basically portrays him as a spirit that is human-like but has power over the entire universe. As if reality on his level is experienced the way humans experience reality.

God isn't a single entity that has thoughts and emotions the same way humans do. The concept of god is a lot more like the idea of a universal conciousness than a single, separate humanlike entity, like some sort of cosmic king.

Well, there's what I think about all this. It's one of those things that's hard to put into words, and I know I didn't do a great job, but...fuck it. Maybe someone will figure out just what the hell I'm trying to say.

But if god is all powerful, he would have the power to reduce and add to his own power. Sorted, now you can fuck up as many brownies as you like AND be a god at the same time.
