      Exclamation Vitamin B6

I recently bought some 100mg pills, tablets (whatever you call them) of Vitamin B6. My concern is the dosage and whether long term use will produce negative side-effects. I've looked around the web and I've got mixed results; some say dosages from 100mg-250mg over long-term use aren't harmful, yet others state amounts over 100mg should only be sustained for a short period of time and then left for several weeks or even months.

Does anybody know more about this? And whether taking 100mg a day for prolonged periods is going to be bad for me?

I always take three of this small vitamin B-pills and that's enough! I think it has just negative side-effects if you take a lot of them (about 1000mg a day) over a long time , that is so much, that you can't even eat it,. ...so it isn't bad to take 3 pills, maybe every second day.. it's like eating a lot of bananas xD.. I didn't recognize negative effects, too, but you have to try out..

btw: I think vitamin B6 is quite helpful, it helped me a lot to remember my dreams

How many milligrams was that though? I think the most I'd be willing to take in one day is 2 - possibly another half on top of that, but with anything over 100mg on very spaced out occasions. I'm just being cautious because of what I've read (which is to take no more than 100mg a day).

You definitely don't want to take these each day if you intend to increase vividness and dream length. They quickly lose their effect. Dosages of 500mg on a daily basis for a month didn't do much damage. More than that though and you can get nerve damage.

I suggest you take them once or twice a week, and then 200 mg tops. 50-150 mg should be enough.

When B6 was first introduced to these forums, there has been talk of doses of 200mg taken in the long term causing peripherial nerve damage in the hands and fingers. Some kind of numbness. I found that the dose of 50 mg, taken 3-4.5 hours after going to bed (whenever you wake up) is very effective at boosting recall and vividness for the next 2 dreams. Take it with water and keep a water bottle by your bed. Drink a bit of water after each dream you wake up from, B6 is water soluble and is out of your system by the morning. Taken this way, B6 has been repeatedly reported to produce spontaneous lucidity.

Limit these attempts to 2-3 times per week.

I also bought some 100mg tablets last month. I took one and found no change whatsoever, so a few nights later I doubled the dose. I still didn't notice any change. Not sure whether to try it with 3 or more or not....lol. I DID read on a medical website that whatever nerve damage you may suffer as a result of taking B6 isn't permanent and will reverse once you stop taking it.

I'm hesitant to try drugs and/or suppliments too much and am trying to go the "natural" route, ie, cheese, bananas, apple juice, etc.

I read that too but I'm not too sure how legitimate that information is. Some sources say it's permanent, others say the opposite. Also, I'd prefer to stay as natural as possible as well, so I don't intend to do this all the time.

100mg of B6 is a few hundred shy of 8,000% of the RDA for a 19-50 year old male, I would recommend a level of cation when taking such large amounts. If you're looking to go natural chickpeas have 55% DV (Daily Value) per cup. Some cereals can also pack a punch as far as vitamins go, General Mills 'Total' brand cereal has 100% B6 along with a host of other (non-dream related) vitamins. You might not get the same results as B6 supplements but it will be safer, less expensive, and taste like cranberries. Happy dreaming!

Hmmm....I might have to buy some Omega 3 Fish Oil pills then. I took three 100mg tablets of B6 the night before last but my dreams didn't seem any more or less vivid.

It has been shown that Omega3 fatty acids (n-3) promote brain growth, similar to the effects of B6. Cool stuff

On day 1, I took B-complex with 100 mg of B6 at around 2pm, and that night had 3 very long, super detailed and little more vivid regular dreams, than normally. They were so detailed, I didn't even write down everything, I felt like I could be writing forever.

On day 2, I took the same dose in the morning, and didn't have any long or detailed regular dreams, in fact, my recall may have been little worse.

Day 3, I took it at 3pm, and again, no detailed or long dreams.

Next, I'll take it at bedtime together with choline.

      This is from livestrong website:
The risk of nerve damage increases with doses of 200 mg per day or more, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The risk is greatly increased at doses of 500 to 1,000 mg per day. To reduce the risk of nerve damage, the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine has set a tolerable upper intake level of 100 mg per day. Taking less than 100 mg per day will minimize your risk of developing sensory neuropathy caused by vitamin B-6.

I generally use 50-75mg of vitamin b-6 when I use it. That has worked pretty well for me. I haven't experienced much of a difference with doses higher than that.
