What's with this fixation on snow?

Snow and ice seem to be common themes in my dreams. It varies in non-lucid dreams, but in lucid dreams there is always snow and it is always cold. The only exception is when I'm inside a building.

The type of snow changes. Sometimes I'm lucid dreaming with slush and ice, and in other lucid dreams giant puff-balls of snow are falling from the sky onto a fluffy blanket of white snow. Sometimes the snow is brown, ew, right? Sometimes freezing rain is falling onto the snow. It's always, always, winter-ish in my dreams.

I live in an area with balanced weather. Warm in the summer, never too hot. Rainy. Cold, I guess. But it only ever gets cold enough to snow a couple of times during winter.

      Anyway, you get it.

Any similar experiences, explanations or comments?

It's your most recognizable dream sign. Recognize it and use it to become lucid.

I almost always have rain or storms in my dreams, sometimes even floods. It doesn't happen that often here though I've seen some amazing storms and floods. They are in nearly all of my dreams, and the really big rains and floods sometimes help me become lucid.

Try and use your dream-snow to spawn lucidity, do a reality check and enjoy the dream.

as melanieb says, its your dream sign! Lucky you have a distinct one you can use.

I know that if my bedroom is cold, or there is a cold draft, my dreams are colder. It may be something like that, or it may just be that your sub-conscious has some connection with snow! A childhood memory perhaps?

For me, my dream are filled with music concerts. This is my dream sign. I have yet to use it to attain lucidity by RCing when I see my dream sign, but I am working on it by using Mantras. 'I will RC when I am at a concert.' etc

      Ooh, their breath is warm
      And they smell like sleep
And they say they take me home
      Like poppies heavy with seed
They take me deeper and deeper

Yeah, it's just simply your dream sign

Snow is awesome anyway, so i don't see why would this be bad
      I realize that i'm dreaming.
      I realize that i'm dreaming.
      I realize that i'm dreaming.

I wasn't clear enough. When I said that it 'varies' in my non-lucid dreams, I mean that I sometimes have snow or ice in my non-lucids.

I actually just wanted to know why it is always present in my lucid dreams.

Hmm...since I don't seem to have anything like that specifically in lucid dreams, I don't have as deep an understanding of your problem. Even though it's more common in your lucid dreams than otherwise, it still would be a good idea to stay on the lookout for it in non-lucids to become lucid. Now, as to why it's always there when you're lucid, I can only guess. If your subconscious does have some kind of connection to snow like isthisit suggested, then perhaps the shift in consciousness triggers it?

Since I'm just being hypothetical here, I might as well clarify for myself...do you only become lucid when it's snowing, or does it begin to snow as soon as you become lucid?

I mostly WILD. I don't remember what it's like when I become lucid during a dream because it's been to long since that's happened and I never bothered to write it down. Anyway, when I WILD the snow/slush is already on the ground.

It's happened so many times that it's frustrating. My house is on a hill, and it's impossible to go anywhere when there's ice or snow, even when you're walking. That transfers over to my lucid dreams.

I admire that you use WILD for your lucid dreams...all of my WILDs thus far have been accidents.

I remember reading in a tutorial once that it's possible to manipulate the hypnagogic imagery as you enter sleep paralysis when WILDing. If the snow forms around you following the SP imagery, then perhaps by creating a dream scene while in that phase you could enter a dream without snow. As I've never done this myself, it's only a guess, but if you were to, say, imagine fire as you were going in, then maybe you'd start the dream somewhere without snow like a volcano. (Though I'm not sure if starting in a volcano is the best idea... ) If you get the chance, try that and tell me if it does anything. If you end up in a place with flaming snow, I think more desperate measures may be needed.
