      Your experiences with water

Long ago, I read in this forum some interesting ideas about how the brain reproduces water during a dream. So, recently I experimented with it, and tried to dive into a lake. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go deep and I ended just floating while looking at the sky. It was nice, but I wanted to explore other "worlds".

I would like to know some of your experiences with water in order to have some ideas about how to deal with this element inside a dream.

      Thanks for your answers!

The last Dream I had about water was killer.

I Dreamt that I was in a big pool, already submerged, and I couldn't breathe. I swam towards the surface for air but every stroke made my muscles burn. I reached the ladder at the edge of the pool and began to pull myself up the rungs because I no longer had the strength to swim. This whole time I cant breathe, and the feeling in my lungs matches the one in my muscles. My body wants to quit every second I'm in the water, and I'm continuing to get weaker as I climb. I have this feeling in the back of my mind about how good it would feel to stop fighting and just let go of the ladder, but there's also something driving me forward, telling me that I only need to go a little bit further and ill be ok. I finally broke the surface of the water and I remember leaning over the edge of the pool, gasping for air, no one around to help me.

What I remember very vividly about this is the amount of control I maintained. I didn't panic and wake up, and I didn't give up. I pushed onward despite most of my body telling me not to, and I made it.

      That's awsome!
As I can see, it reflects how real can the brain reproduce this environment during a non-lucid.
I'm looking forward for lucid dream experiences, where people had to deal with water, and I want to know if it behaved the same way as in a non-lucid. In my latest experience, it didn't, it pushed me up stronger as it normally do. It's funny to remember that before getting in, I was worried about my handy until I realized it was a dream and it didn't matter...

When I'm not lucid, water is water, period; just like waking life.

When lucid, though, water becomes just another aspect of a world that I know is not real. So, when I'm in water (which happens a lot, especially in low-level LD's) I can breathe, move easily in all directions, and basically treat water as just another malleable object in my Self-created dream-world. Except for one thing.

I've never been able to explore the depths of the water I find myself in, and I never choose, during the LD, to explore the depths of water I put myself in (usually during high-level LD's). I think this is because I have in my mind the concept that bodies of water -- the kind you find yourself in rather than see pass you by, like streams (which mean other things) is a nearly universal archetype of the unconscious. So I may in a lucid be able to break the surface of my unconscious, but I either can't or won't dive deeper. It's a sort of curious thing to me, especially because I am very interested during waking life in diving right in and plumbing the deepest depths of that water, but when I'm there, fully lucid, I'm content to simply drift quietly many meters under the surface, letting my awareness gently interface with the surrounding water, completely disinterested in even looking around. Odd.

Water is one of the hardest parts of my lucids to recreate, probably because there are so many similar liquids which are more viscous than water. Often it acts like clay or treacle and on rare occasions it's like I'm floating in a gas, it also seems to react weird to whatever gravity is in my dreams moving quite unnaturally.
I kinda hate the sea beacuse I find large bodies of water really lonely but there are a lot of streams and rivers in my dreams so I usually don't really focus on water more than just for telekinesis.

It's curious to see that I had a lot of low-level LD's where I was able to move along the depths, I was able to breath (I even had LD's which started that way) and so forth. But, once I wanted to do it more consciously, it was very difficult to dive deeper, although I wanted to. It behaved the same way as mirrors when I wanted to walk through them, and I ended floating looking at the sky, then I remembered something I loved to do long ago during some vacations when I was a teenager: to float motionless while looking at the stars, this feeling was so intense that perhaps that's why I didn't try more and let it go.

I remember one dream that i had when i was not lucid is that when i tend to walk on water it feels like stepping on soft lego. I can feel the little circles pressing on my feet but it's calming and doesn't hurt at all.

I had lucids where I didn't feel comfortable with the depths I was able to see from above when I reached higher locations in the dreamscape. On the other hand, sometimes it was wonderful to just fly above those waters on a kind of land of thousand lakes.
I'm curious to know if somebody was able to consciously explore those depths during a LD, how did it behave, how did he/she move there and so on. Apparently it could not be that easy.

I have explored water before, but as I said it acts differently. It however did not feel particularily weird or anything.
I think the main reason why water is so hard to explore is because we all have the instinct to get out of water for fear of drowning and fear of the unkown. Unlike almost any other medium, water gives both a fun and interactive substance to play with yet it also poses the possiblity to die a horrible death.
It's just like how even some expert lucid dreamers are still frightened by dark places, because of the fear of the unkown.

I've found water to be rather pleasant and calming in my dreams. I guess it's just how I perceive it in waking life.

      Hey there..

About the water during dreams.. my first lucid dream i could experience water. It's kind of weird how i got wet from diving into a fountain and after getting out i was completely dry. I could totaly lose my lucidity just by being around water cause it's so freaking real on the skin.

i don't have much experience with LDs on practice.. but i sure enjoy when they happend. ;D

My favorite water element in dreams is rain! It always feels 100% real, cold and wet. If I'm lucid then I know its okay to play in the rain. But even lucid, being in a down pour can still be overwhelming . Showers (bath) are also extremely real in dreams, I guess because its so similar to rain. Those showers fool me all the time in false awakenings. (didnt I already take a shower?)

But bodies of water? They are inconsistent in my dreams. Sometimes lakes or pools are just fuzzy, I don't feel any water. Other times I feel like I don't have enough weight. It makes it hard to swim or impossible to dive.

But sometimes even bodies of water are very realistic, down to those icky details you try to avoid. In one lucid I swam through a lake: complete with slimy rocks under your feet, mangled seaweed, frothy pond-flavored water splashing in your face and random dead fish and frogs floating past you.

Water is an important element in my lucid dreams. Usually in lucids I go straight to instinct mode and I'm either 1. looking for a forest or 2. looking for a body of water

For years my lucid focus was on on the ocean. You see, I once had a very lucid dream on the tropical beaches of puerto rico. It was 99% perfect, everything! The sand beneath my feet. The warmth of the sun and the warmth of those tropical waters. The sensation of the tides as they push and pull you. The sound. It was mind blowingly awesome! The only thing missing was the salt flavor, thank God. That dream was so real I really believed I had teleported to alternate reality.

After that amazing lucid I would search for oceans to swim in. But my lucid efforts could never duplicate that ocean. Instead the oceans I got were weird, abstract, something out of a really bad video game.

I just gave up and accepted that water is an emotional element in my dreams, I can't really control those water dreams.

It's amazing how sometimes it feels so real, and sometimes it behaves so unnatural... I was thinking about this comfortable places I used to dream from time to time, which have something related to this element, and I've found in addition to rain, this sort of land which hills are kind of covered by a thin layer of water all around. I wasn't able to get lucid there, but definitively it has become one of my next goals.

It's something like grass when it's covered by water when it rains and there are puddles here and there although it's not muddy at all. In the slopes it's like a calm flowing stream or so. In nature, there should be a constant source of water for it to happen, but in these dreams, there isn't, or at least I didn't find it yet. And it's everywhere...

      Hope you got it.

In a dream I had sort of recently I was under ground. Water was pretty much everywhere but it wasn't deep but deep enough for me to try submerging my face into it and I was able to breathe underwater. I could also sense someone with me. Maybe a guide?

I have not had that many experiences with water in my dreams so I can not say how real mine are. The only experience I do remember was very hazy and low quality.

I meant different methods of controlling water. I barely remember having previous experiences controlling water rather than just plane rain. I recently realized that this element is present, in some way or another, in a lot of my dreams. When they were LD's, I used to see large bodies of water more often as a limit in stead of a possibility to explore in different ways such as diving, swimming, sailing or just walking around its shores.

Water generally feels exactly the same as it does in reality for me. I've had the odd dream where it looks a little unnatural. The only real common abnormality is that the water seems to always look very deep or murky. For the most part though, I tend to avoid water. Since I was young I've had a fear of water in my dreams. This is because it almost always has some sort of creature lurking in its depths whether its a shark, large-toothed fish, or a giant sea monster. This seems to partially be because whenever there is water I imagine that there is something lurking in it that will try and get me, and since the dream is controlled by my thoughts monsters do appear. I often even avoid it when I'm lucid.

I have had a few fun and cool experiences with water though. I've walked on water a few times and I always have the ability to breath underwater, which sometimes causes me to become lucid. It's strange how natural breathing underwater feels for me. O.o I've also used telekinesis to control water multiple times. One time I actually had a dream where my mom was teaching me use telekinesis better to control water. '__' Usually I make hand motions when trying to move water, but my mom was teaching me how to do it with just my mind.

I had a DILD once where I thought something like that, although the giant monster didn't show up but a soft tail-slap. Because of that, I concluded that this monster had to be really big, then I realized that I didn't have the most remote idea about how to deal with such a creature, perhaps that's the reason why it didn't came out of the water. Then I turned my back and went away to do something else and stop thinking about it.

I want to do the walk on water stuff too!!

I read somewhere that this curious feeling of breathing underwater could have something to deal with our embrionary development in the womb or so.

I'm pretty much interested in using telekinesis with water...
