I'm sorry to ruffle you feathers. As I recall, this was the best place I could come up with to put my post. If it was inappropriate, perhaps a moderator would be willing to move this thread. It certainly makes sense that this would be a place to discuss DVcentric experiments.

Just read through the LSOP. Yea, this is for DV community experiments. So, why ARE only half the posts following the intention of the sub-forum? I smell opportunity.

There must be a way to make the purpose of this sub-forum more visible, or to have another place to repost things from other sites like youtube.

      Thanks for the heads-up.
I don't exactly know what's the problem but I guess most people take a look at the name of the subforum and judge according to that what fits in there, without ever looking at the 2 stickies here.
When "DV international" goes online I strive for the place of research mod in the german section, I woul be willing to look over the english research section as well. But before that happens DVI needs to go online and someone has to approve the thought of making me a mod for 2 sections of the forum, I feel up to the task but it's not my decision after all.

As for the topic itself, after some thought and going through my browser history I found it: http://www.dreamviews.com/f45/breakt...mories-122116/
      The video:
Breakthrough Could Enable Others to Watch Your Dreams and Memories [Video] | Observations, Scientific American Blog Network

There you have a 30 seconds long video of far more detailed reconstruction, even if it is still full of bugs.

I think this type of thread would fit most into General Dream Discussion like the thread I mentioned above Even though I must admit that I think it isn't a perfect fit, but it'll do.

..I can't wait for this stuff. There are certain dreams I've had that I'd want to be able to watch over and over and over (*w*)

I've become obsessed with science and technology lately, so this.. ..this.. ..this is my holy grail!

I know what you mean MissLucy. We have seen much of what we are going to see in our lifetime. The computer and phones get better and faster, but it is much the same. I'm actually happy with the computer and google...but...this would be a true new technology. I just don't think we'll see it before we find the cure for cancer.

If I could watch my own dreams or other peoples dreams, shoot! I guarantee the Dream Channel would beat the ratings of every other show.

Actually, know what I think? I think the cure for cancer is something ridiculously simple. So simple, that we, with our complicated way of thinking, formulas, knowledge of chemistry etc have simply overlooked it in trying so hard. Or maybe it's some organism we haven't discovered yet. Maybe we've extinguished it by accident in the industrial revolution, who knows!?

      Back on topic:
Hmm I don't think we should be allowed to see everyone's dreams, that's a violation of privacy, don't you think? I mean, I don't particularly feel the need to see anyone else's dreams. Unless of course there's a dream or two they *want* to share with me, that'd be awesome ^^ maybe the technology would have complicated passwords or something, so you can have at least some control over who sees your dreams?

Yea, I think we all agree that dreams would be private unless access would be granted.

Maybe if such a channel was to become available, everyone could submit their recorded dreams if they want to share them! ..like a visual dream journal!

I would. I just hope it doesn't take as long as the concept cars. They are just now coming out with cars that look nearly as good as the concept cars from the 50's. Only time will tell.

If it were me, I wouldn't watch them with others either. I'd probably just save my favorite dreams a video files (hypothetically...) and create a video-dream-journal.

I saw something recently where an American college had actually developed this technology further and improved it. Spooky.

God, I would love to record my dreams and watch them again. That also would help us to get a better dream recall. I f I don't remember my dreams in the morning, I just have to press "Play" and dream the dream again. I would like to get into the dream again, not only watch it like a video. But also this would be great. I wouldn't want to share ALL my dream with the world, but maybe the most exciting ones. And I could share my dreams with my best friends and watch their dreams.. what a great thing that would be, too pity that it's still not possible.

I'm sure that one day it will be. Humans have been advancing at an astronomical rate over the past few centuries; I'm sure we'll have our own dream video recorder in a decade or two.

I'm sure once this becomes available, if it ever gets developed fully, I'll no where near have the funds

I hate to say it, but you're probably right...that's why you've got to get into the business and help design it yourself! That way you'll get it by default, not to mention actually know how it works. And then there's being paid, etc. Sounds like a great package, if you ask me.

Heh, recording and replaying dreams is only one step removed from reversing the process, i.e. creating dreams with the device and playing them to our mind, ergo: The Matrix.

At least it's only as good as a 1970's low resolution dot-matrix printer: crap. We're safe for now.

Oh, no. I'm still in high school.
I am interested in possibly working in the field, though. I honestly haven't quite decided what I'm doing in life yet. Perhaps getting better at lucid dreaming this summer will help with that.

If I hadn't already chosen a music path, I'd definitely be going through a psychology/neuroscience path. It's probably a bit too late for me to change now.

I studied cognitive psychology at uni, and to be honest the degree in itself offered very little in regards to dreaming and sleep. None of the researchers nor lecturers had a remote interest lol....the closest was a very mad one interested in hypnosis and consciousness. To be fair, I didn't choose the degree and university for dreaming/sleep - I came to that realisation half way through completing it.

Even if you found researchers/lecturers with interest, it would seem imperative that the university has a dream/sleep lab, and if not that....at least ready access to brain scanners. I only say this because otherwise you can't conduct experiments, and then research articles or library books would be your best friend. A friend that doesn't require undertaking a degree.

I guess it helps as a stepping stone, however.

Very true, I have friends doing psychology at my uni, and they say it's just going over the A level stuff I covered - methodology and bloody Milgram. They're only in first year, but still, the course doesn't look like it's offering much in the way of theoretical thinking. The philosophy students I've spoken to, on the other hand, seem to have a far more interesting course.

I do have a 'psychology of music' module, which in itself is boring as fuck (again going over experiment types and data analysis), but the research I've done for some of my essays has been really interesting.

Apologies, I've just realised how off-topic we're getting.

I just realised I said I studied Cognitive Psychology. I studied Psychology, but the module on Cognitive Psychology was the only interesting portion (consciousness)....and maybe Biological Psychology. But, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Economic Psychology, and Evolutionary Psychology weren't really of interest to me.

Haha yeah, 1st and 2nd year was pretty much statistics, statistics, statistics.

If I could choose again, it'd certainly be a combination of philosophy of consciousness and artificial intelligence (comp sci).

      Apologies for the hijack.

I may just sit in on a few of my friends' philosophy lectures to see what they're like. I'm paying 3.5 grand a year for 7 hours a week, I may as well get a bit more for my money.
