I have also been told to tell you that your videos are all terrible, and mohttp://www.dreamviews.com/f21/technooo-103238/#post1529318st of them are not techno. LET'S HAVE A LESSON.
Electronic music has many genres. Techno is just one! Most of what is being posted here is actually house or electro-house. Mostly electro-house. Let me explain the emytology of these genres.
TECHNO: Techno stems from Kraftwerk
and other European electronic music
becoming mixed with African-American styles of music like funk,
AND MOST IMPORTANT the technological advancements of the late 80s and early 90s. Techno was always futuristic music; it does generally not have recognizable samples, and often no recognisable instruments. Samples that are there (because sampling is always common) will often be cut up into unrecognizable pieces or processed into electronic mush. Nonsampled vocals are optional, and uncommon. Techno ALSO proceeds at a relatively fast pace - 135bpm to 150bpm
NEXT UP IS HOUSE MUSIC
House music comes straight from disco
frankly, it is basically just disco made with synthesizers and drum machines and samples instead of a live band. It is generally denser and slower than techno; it's less likely to have complex technological editing, and more likely to use acoustic instrumentation, whether live or sampled from old records.
DAFT PUNK ARE NOT TECHNO. THEY ARE HOUSE. House proceeds at 115-130bpm, normally; and Daft Punk does this. House samples more, and Daft Punk does this. House is also generally more popular than techno, and Daft Punk are very popular.
NEXT IS ELECTRO MUSIC. I have no idea what electro music is, actually. I think it has more snares, and less vocals. It's also less rigid in its drums. Take these examples of what the internet calls classic electro, make what you will.
Let's sum them up, to prevent you from reading all that
TECHNO
- Stems from Detroit, and Europe
- Tries to get the maximum dancibility out of the minimum elements
- Is more minimal and repetitive as a result
- Is constantly trying to get weird sounds and technical innovations
- Is more about the sound than the music theory
- 135 - 150bpm
- Doesn't sample or use very much acoustic instrumentation that's recognizable - will process it into weirdness
House
- Stems from Chicago, and disco
- Is basically disco with synthesizers and samplers
- 115-130bpm
- Samples a lot
- Is less technically advanced - will focus more on actual songyness than the sounds
- Uses way more vocals
Electro
- I have no fucking idea
- I actually think electro is what you get when you Gary Numan
- Like, all that 80s pop stuff when you make it purely synthesizers
WHAT THEY HAVE IN COMMON IS THAT THEY HAVE A 4/4 KICK, and use synthesizers. This isn't good enough for you to keep mistaking them; you might as well say since Led Zeppelin and Queen both have high vocalists and guitar solos they are exactly the same.
of course this is probably all nonsense
Anyway, dumb pretentious rant over. Courtesy of no-name being angry
