Not that I agree with or support the double standard, but to try to clarify it a bit:

I believe it's because of the origins of the words, and what they imply (outside of the obvious racial difference, of course).

To call someone a nigger, and mean it, you are calling them, basically, a worthless piece of shit. You're saying they are good for nothing but washing your underwear and picking your cotton - for beating, raping, spitting on, stoning, etc. You are invoking the mentality that hung men, women and children for simply being born of a certain color. It is the single, worst slur (given the context and the mind-frame that you are giving appraisal to) that you can call someone. Can you think of a word that carries that much weight?

To call someone a cracker, you are essentially calling them a "whip-cracker." You are calling them a conceited supremist, who loves to boss people around and impose their will (or even beat) on them. More or less, that's all the word implies.

It's basically the difference between making fun of a Jew for his ancestors burning in Auschwitz, and calling a German a Nazi. One is definitely more offensive than the other, IMO.

He's as wishy-washy as they come. His bent on bailing from the current endeavours. That's all we need to know. The only way to win a war is to fight to win, NOT fight to lose. Thank for bringing those us. You're right on the money there. What America NEEDS is to ENFORCE our immigration policy (just like every other nation in the world does). I'm sick and tired of Mexico walking all over us and blatantly disregarding our laws and mocking our borders. And I'm sick and tired of our frickin' politicians (yes, Bush included) looking the other way and pretending there is no problem. There IS a problem and it's a huge problem. Open your damn eyes, Washington.

And you're right about the socialised health care. Governmentally supplied health care is a TERRIBELY huge mistake. Too many people are snowed over by the feel-go sound of it but, make no mistake, it would be a huge turn for the worse.

Government is NEVER the solution for things of that - or just about any other - nature. Don't think that because countries like Canada have national health care that it works. It does not work. What is does is lower the standards, clog up the system, waste money and chase people with serious medical problems to seek help out of the country (e.g. America).

Remember, Liberalism (and by extension, the Democratic party) is about feel-good, sound-good rhetoric lacking substance and realism, NOT comprehensive, practical solutions. Liberalism is about gaining greater and greater control over the masses and their everyday goings-on. That is NOT and NEVER is the answer: to ANY problem a country faces. In fact, it's extremely counter-productive and serves only to take away rights and freedoms.
