Snoring during WILD attempts - anybody else?

      Hi.

The last two mornings I have tried the WILD technique, mainly to relax, mainly to learn or eventually master.

Although I wasn't successful in inducing a lucid dream from the actual attempt itself, I did not class it as a 'fail' because I had used my WILD attempts after a natural morning WBTB simply as a relaxation exercise, then I simply went to bed, fell asleep naturally (because I was so relaxed) and got my lucid dream via DILD anyhow.

Usually I attempt WILD lying on my BACK. The reason being if I sleep on my side (like with my DILD) then I fall asleep really easy.

When I do this I have noticed when going near the so-called 'transition' stage (or perhaps past it?) that I notice that I sometimes make a snoring noise when breathing which distracts me into full waking consciousness. I don't think I have a snoring issue or problem generally, probably because I don't usually sleep on my back.

I expect that I will have to try to ignore it, but it is a bit distracting. Note that I don't have a breathing or sleeping problem. Nor do I take medication or alcohol that might cause it.

Do I just accept it, move on and try to ignore it?

Any thoughts? Anyone else get this?

      Regards.

Want an easy remedy? Lie on your back, but turn your head to your right side...the snoring might not happen then!

I do a lot of WBTBs on my back, semi-reclined in a chair in my living room. Because I'm sitting at a higher elevation this doesn't happen except very rarely, usually when I position my pillow poorly.

Turning your head is one solution, particularly if you won't try sleeping somewhere else or with more elevation to your pillows.

The problem with lying on your back is that your tongue and soft tissues slide back with gravity and close off your airway. You can change the position of your head (side or elevation) or you can try techniques that will strengthen your muscles, possibly preventing this closing off of your airway.

Copied from: How to Stop Snoring: Cures and Remedies for Snoring

      Throat exercises to stop snoring

Practiced for 30 minutes a day, throat exercises can be an effective way to reduce or stop snoring. Repeatedly pronouncing certain vowel sounds and curling the tongue in specific ways can strengthen muscles in the upper respiratory tract and thereby reduce snoring.

Try the following exercises to stop snoring. Start slow and gradually increase the number of sets you do. In some cases, you may be able to combine the exercises with other activities, such as commuting to work, walking your dog, working out, or taking a shower.

Repeat each vowel (a-e-i-o-u) out loud for three minutes a few times a day.

Place the tip of your tongue behind your top front teeth. Slide your tongue backwards for 3 minutes a day.

Close your mouth and purse your lips. Hold for 30 seconds.

With mouth open, move jaw to the right and hold for 30 seconds. Repeat on left side.

With mouth open, contract the muscle at the back of your throat repeatedly for 30 seconds. Tip: Look in the mirror to see the uvula (“the hanging ball”) move up and down.

      Hope this helps!

      Hi Sageous and Melanie B.

Thanks for the tips. Yes I will definitely try those.
Melanie B; it is funny you mention about the head elevation in relation to snoring as I did try an extra pillow this morning which seemed to help.

I have made a text copy of the replies for reference.

It is funny how you do not notice things when sleeping. I think the WILD attempts of mine made me more aware of certain bodily functions that are usually dismissed etc.

I have also followed Sageous and his thread tips on WILD regarding general awareness. I have began to use a suitable mantra during my attempts as well.

      Regards.
