      Sleep paralysis ends too quickly?

Hi, I'm new to the forum.

I have had around 2 or 3 attempts to WILD using the wake back to bed technique for around 5-6 hours that only end in Sleep paralysis but not in a lucid dream.

I can achieve sleep paralysis and do not fear it. I get all the hallucinations, vibrations, etc. Last one felt like I was being electrocuted. But after a very small time, the feeling goes away and I'm no longer paralyzed nor asleep. I'm just laying there, awake with my eyes closed and my body still. What am I doing wrong?

Can someone tell me what to do? It's a bit frustrating to have this 10 seconds of SP after hours of preparation for an LD

Do you think that maybe you interupt the SP somehow? Getting too excited? If not, you can try to RC when you feel SP is over. Some people suggest, when SP is over, you may be in a lucid dream already.

Try breathing faster when you are in SP. It works for me to prolong it's duration.

Slow breathing makes it stop faster too (for me).

every wild Ive had i get sp first, then after it goes away, i think Im awake lying in bed like you are, but I'm actually dreaming. Do a RC next time SP ends and you might find that your actually dreaming :p it feels just as real as real life so you won't know until you reality check. Even if you open your eyes and see that your lying on your bed, chances are its a dream. Thats how it is for me atleast :p I do notice that sometimes SP ends to quickly aswell. Sometimes in these cases I do wake up and dont make it to a dream. I'll try breathing faster like littlezoe said when that happens, hopefully that might help too.

I'll try breathing faster next time too.

I actually did get up and did a RC right away. I was awake. I also could hear what was going on IRL. I wasn't really very much asleep, I was very still and hearing my brother speaking on the phone (it was around 10 am) I had tried wake back to bed but my brother kept waking me up, or making me move, so I was falling asleep again and again. I wanted to have that WILD. As I heard my brother go on the phone I had the SP in a really unexpected manner, and it ended too quickly. I was a little confused, I tought I had opened my eyes DURING the SP and saw my room, but now that I notice, it was a different room entirely. I tried to "close my eyes" to try and not alter the SP, it ended a few seconds after that. Maybe I got too exited but why would that matter? I certainly didn't move.

I would not advise speeding up or slowing down your breathing to prolong SP. Any change in speed will most likely give signal that you are awake.

Changing your breathing pattern (and also trying to wiggle your fingers or toes) is acctually avised, if you want to break the SP, because that's how your mind finds out, that you are awake and it's time to release you from SP.

When you say "I tought I had opened my eyes DURING the SP and saw my room, but now that I notice, it was a different room entirely."

That sounds to me like you were in LD already here. That's when you could have gotten up from bed and continue with your LD.

Fast breathing is normal during SP. But once you are aware of what is happening, your breathing might slow down, since you are not worried anymore.

Speeding up the breathing is just a signal that it should keep on going.

Yet again, that's how it is for me... and since it's like that for me, i'm sure there are others that this works the same way for... So advising not to do it just because you think it's not right is not a good idea. It might just work for him too.

I say it's worth the try.

So I actually have had 2 LDs about 3 seconds long each? How do I avoid waking up?

Sleep paralysis occurs when your brain thinks that you're asleep. Knowing this, here are some tried-and-true methods of breaking out of the paralysis.

Change your breathing pattern - speed up or slow down your breathing to something different than what you were doing when the SP started happening. You can also try taking a deep breath, then a short breath - an irregular pattern of breathing.

Stabilization methods... Like rub your hands together, or just look at your hands. Anything you do that keeps you in touch with the dream world stabilizes the dream

But it's not so long so that I can try to stabilize. It just pops and then it's gone.

DEILD Tutorial - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

DEILD might be the solution then. You can use it to reenter a dream that just collapsed. Then once you are in, hopefully you can stabilize.

If I do this DEILD, will I have SP again or will I just enter the dream?

When i DEILD, i rarely notice the SP. You can get back to the dream really fast. Just don't move and don't open your eyes... but it's written down more detailed on the link i gave you

^ Then explain to me why does making my breathing faster prolong my SP?

I did enough testing to know that it's not a coincidence.

I have no problem with this method working for you. What I have problem with, is you presenting your method as the only method that will work.

Someone who is new to LDing should be presented with methods that work for majority of people. After they gain experience, I'm sure they will try to tweak it by experimenting on their own and by following suggestions from the numerous threads.

WILDing is already hard enough. Bad advise makes it impossible.

Then you didn't read my posts carefully enough.

I get these same claims as you just did, so since a while i always add a "that's how it is for me" part. I did that here too and said that it won't hurt to try for him.

Open your eyes and Get up

Trust me but it's really simple, after you vibrations and hallucinations. You already transistioned into your dream realm, so just get up and do what you want. I've done this everytime I've gotten into SP and never woke up in reality. When you get up, dont think about anything, just get up with no doubts and next thing you know you'll realize that your in a dream after performing a reality check. Sometimes when I do this method, I get up to find myself in my old bedroom and I can easily tell that I'm lucid dreaming. It's usually your expectations that are significant factors of a lucid dream. So get up and perform a reality check. Hope this helps

First off, I recommend checking this thread out: http://www.dreamviews.com/f79/sleep-...tified-131380/

Secondly, the issue you described is actually quite normal. Vibrations tend to appear in N2 sleep, and a normal person will experience 2 N2 phases separated by N3 sleep before slipping into REM. If you can keep your attention balanced between your anchor and consciousness, your excitement contained, and your thoughts steady through the N3 period, you should be fine.
