Discipline and determination.
But I understand what you saying. Sometimes it's just so hard to get up and stay up, when warm bed is right there.
1. Read some exciting dream journals.
hyu - from older members - epic stories of his travels to another planet with his guide and building his own persistent worlds
sensei, opheliablue, fryingman, dolphin, sivason - just to name a few current members
2. Take notes from their DJs, some adventures you would like to have in your lucids. Write them in your dream journal as dream goals. Think about them, draw pictures or find pictures of similar scenes or places on the internet and imagine yourself being there in a lucid.
3. You don't have to, but this works like magic for me. When I want to do some lucid goal, I practice it for few minutes during day. No matter what it is, like reach in your pocket to pull something out; Look behind a corner or behind you to find some item or somebody; Have a swordfight... just about anything. Stand up in your room and go through the motions how would you do something in your dream. pay attantion.
I never saw my body in a dream before, until I actually practiced looking at my arm, seeing what I'm wearing.
4. Force yourself to get out of the bed.
- put your alarm clock out of reach, so you have to get out of bed to shut it off.
- my personal fave is to drink water before bed and then everytime it wakes you up to restroom, until it's good time to stay up for WBTB
Tell yourself that in half an hour, you will be back in bed and you gonna have an awesome adventure. I would say that's worth of bit of discomfort.
Good luck and happy dreams
