Marijuana as a LD induction substance?

Any input on if this can induce LDs? I used to smoke, but quit like 8-10 months ago.

Lets not confess to a felony for lucid dreaming sake.

Marijuana is actually a REM suppressant. So it essentially reduces your chance of having a dream, which means less lucid dreams.

Feinberg, et al. (1975) compared the sleep patterns of experienced marijuana users on tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and a placebo. Feinberg, et al. (1975) reported reduced eye movement activity and less REM sleep in the THC condition. They also reported a REM rebound effect, that is more REM activity, on withdrawal from THC. So,there exists some scientific evidence that marijuana interfers with REM sleep.
Feinberg, I., Jones, R, Walker JM, Cavness, C, March, J. (1975). Effects of high dosage delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol on sleep patterns in man. Clin Parmacol Ther. 1975; 17(4):458-66.

And if you've successfully given up, don't start again.

Come to think of it, how did they give a placebo? Don't you think you'd be able to tell the difference?

I just had my first lucid in months after smoking last night. I think it increases my amount of lucid dreams, but it also harder to remember them. So it's a win/lose.

yeah its a strange balance to find isnt it. i think in very small amounts it can be exactly what you need to give you that boost of awareness. however its easy to over do it and just have fuzzy forgetful dreams

some periods i will smoke daily and have lucids all the time, other times i won't get lucid at all. sometimes i will quit and have loads of dreams. sometimes this goes away and having another little smoke hits me straight back to lucidity. one thing i will say though is that i would suggest that the percentage of smokers among the lucid community will be far higher....than the percentage of the general population

false disclaimer: the above thoughts are just those of a character i pretend to be online, honest guv

but if you have quit and had any problems shaking it then probably not a good idea to start again

Ive always found cannabis to kill my ability to dream. I always thought it was because it affected memory and I just couldnt remember them, but after reading this thread it makes sense that it affects REM (holy shit dude, Im so stoned, I cant even be bothered to move my EYES!).

I would say try it out for yourself, if you smoke a lot then try not smoking anything for a few days and see if your recall improves.

now this may sound odd at first, but when you are training yourself to be able to do something, it is not always beneficial to use aids that actually help you to perform it. for example when in training for sprinting, high level athletes do not put springs on their spikes or a jetpack on their back. they often tie heavy weights around themselves and even use bungy cords to hold them back. i feel weed can be used in the same way for dream training. perhaps the suppression of rem creates a build up and this is why many people get vivid dreams when they quit for a while. i know the first time i quit, i had the most vivid dreams that i had never thought possible before. in fact i may start a thread on this approach to training because none of the techs around here seem to use that approach. havent thought it through fully yet so just throwing it out there . maybe im holding myself back for no reason sometimes, but hey im in no rush

      dont smoke kiddies

I think marijuana is a wonderful thing and it definitely helps me sleep and dream. I have the coolest most vivid dreams on nights I go to sleep after I have been smoking...but honestly I think it depends on the individual. I dont care what anyone says, you smoke a good potent indica strain, you're going to be out in a few minutes after laying in bed. If you're a more tense person that has problems falling asleep or relaxing, I would definitely recommend seeing if MJ would help you, because it does wonders for me. Sometimes I will feel like I have restless legs and my eyes will feel like they have a mind of their own and will always twitch and want to open by themselves, really making it unable to sleep or relax. MJ counteracts that and makes it really easy for me to relax my muscles and focus on my meditation...it also helps me maintain an even and normal sleep schedule. Its the safest most effective natural medicine in existence, so give it a shot and see what works for you.

I have a feeling OP's trying to show off, but I'm fairly sure mary jane kills off your dream.

This is not my experience at all, but it seems to be the case for some people. I am a heavy MJ smoker (depending on the bud and method of consumption, but I usually smoke 5-7 doobies, or about 8-10 bowls per day....sometimes more sometimes less). However, I use no other forms of medication or drugs, no cigarettes, alcohol, or prescription drugs. I dont even like taking tylenol. I think after so long your body just becomes accustomed to it, and it wont really hinder any of your dream activity. I have the best quality of sleep and dreams when using MJ.

cheers doom good posts i agree. wow thats alot you smoke but everyone is different, and some people almost need it to be able to fit in and live a normal life. the stereotype of a smoker is a lazy bum, but the guy who smokes the most out of everyone i know, is the most hyperactive bloke ive ever met and currently off travelling the world, while most of my other mates are working in dead end jobs for the man, while thinking that weed ruins peoples lives

its called REM rebound. since you've had suppressed REM sleep from smoking weed, you have a sudden burst of it when you stop. and using weed as a training method just sounds like a TERRIBLE idea. just don't use it at all and learn to dream the hard way. without and help of outside tools. it will be most rewarding to do it without a crutch.
