With DEILD, you often won't even feel sleep paralysis. Make sure that when you wake up and keep your eye closed, that you are also mentally relaxed. If you start recalling the dream, you are likely keeping your mind too active and it is fully waking you up. In DEILD, you are simply falling back to sleep immediately. If you are unsuccessful, it is because you didn't fall back to sleep. You likely were over-thinking, instead of just relaxing and let yourself drift off into the dream state once again.

Fundamentally, your problem is that you gave up after a single try. Nothing you try will work if you don't overcome that problem.
