      Reality check cheating?

Hey everyone about 6 months ago I had my first lucid dream, but instead of doing reality checks I usually just say "I'm dreaming" a few times throughout the day and look at my hands. I did this when I wanted to try lucid dreaming, because I thought wouldn't the dream try to get you to believe that everything in a dream is already normal? And I felt slightly lazy. Anyway, one night when I was dreaming in my dream I said "I'm dreaming" and everything became clear and felt real. I remembered to look at my hands to stabalize the dream and I was able to manipulate the dream. Is this an actual method to achieve lucidity or have I not had a lucid dream yet? I feel as if I am lucid dreaming

If you were aware you were dreaming then it was a lucid dream. That's the only qualifier.

Reality checks don't work for everyone and some people use different ones than the standard ones listed.

There are no real rules. The goal is to become lucid so however you achieved it is "the right way" to do it.

There are right ways, and there are consistant ways. In order for it to be right for you it needs, to be consistent. Otherwise, whats the point, right?
All the induction techniques you hear about are famous because they are consistent for a large amount of people. But yeah, it doesn't really matter unless you can do it. I personally invented an induction technique, and i found it works for me, but not everyone.

EDIT:: Also, congratulations on your LD and welcome to DreamViews!

Repeating "I am dreaming" while awake is an existing method, I often use. You need to be sure to look for proof you are dreaming when you do it. It becomes habit like any RC, then if you find yourself saying it AND find the proof, yay, lucidity.
Peace Be With You. Oh, and sure, The Force too, why not.

Isnt it Lucid Dream/OBE with WILD? Or are Astral Projection and OBEs the same thing?

The dream does not need to make you believe that' everything is normal'. While dreaming your big human brain has effectively turned off your ability to reason. You are, in effect, a dream zombie just going with the flow. That is, unless you become lucid. Then the fun begins!

It's all the same. The mind you take into it determines how you interpret it.

OBE's can also occur at times other than sleep. I once had an OBE after smacking my head on concrete while skateboarding.
