Uberman Sleep Schedule and Lucid Dreams

So for various reasons I've decided to give the uberman sleep schedule a try. One of those reasons is that I'm pretty much guaranteed lucid dreams during every nap. I'm going to post updates about my progress and whether or not I have any lucid dreams because of it here. As of now, due to midterms week at my school, I've gotten about six hours of sleep in the past 60 hours and the last time I slept was 3 hours about 30 hours ago, so I'm somewhat into the sleep deprivation already. I'm going to wait for the sleep deprivation to really hit me before I start taking the naps though, so I'm thinking I won't even consider taking a nap until 1 AM tonight.

If this is the wrong place to post this, please let me know.

Supposedly you go into zombie mode for the first week or so. I was planning a polyphasic sleep schedule a while ago, but I couldn't really find any way of adapting it to my schedule. Good luck!

I might also try the a sleep schedule like the uberman, but it did mess up my school schedule, so let me know how it goes for school and if everything works out, so good luck and keep us updated!

Good luck. I personally would rather do the uberman sleep schedule than any others, but I have not ever had the chance to because work/school/family/friends all don't allow for any naps. Get really motivated and keep it up! You can do it. Be very careful when driving cars and the like. I think it would be hard without being sleep deprived at first since taking a nap at will is a difficult thing. I hope that people are right about the lucid dreams during this for your sake.

      Good luck!
Haven't tried this schedule myself, mostly because i am using my own weird sleeping schedule and having success with it, most of my lucid dreams are from naps too though.

Honestly at first I was only going to try uberman so that I could learn how to do a 20 minute nap (it's always taken me forever to fall asleep). Then I thought, if I'm going to go through the effort of adjusting, I might as well try out the schedule. We'll see what happens when I go back to school after break but with looking at my schedule it looks like I'll always have time for a twenty minute nap. Another thing I eventually want to try is experimenting with variable lengths of naps to make up for future missed naps which could make the difference between uberman being impractical or not.

So I'm not really sure how many hours to say it's been without sleep. The last time I had REM sleep was from about 5:30am to 9am on Thursday. However on Thursday I did lay down for a couple of hours and relaxed, but I definitely didn't fall asleep. Also I did the same thing on a bus ride home last night for six hours and once again for twenty minutes this morning. However I am 100% certain I did not go into REM during those times and I was pretty certain that I didn't get any NREM, but now I'm wondering if I got some sort of conscious NREM because I didn't feel nearly as sleep deprived as I expected to feel for most of the day today. Either way, I'm going to start the naps tonight at 12:00PM, I have 4 alarms and 1 of which requires me to input a light sequence, type a password, and solve a math problem before it will turn off. But yeah, today's been pretty rough so far. I mostly just watched TV and played video games but I just feel really strange. I've been very sleep deprived before but this just feels different.

Originally I had decided I wasn't going to post very often in here but then I figured it would help to keep me sane during the adjustment period. I'll probably post again after another 2 or 3 naps unless something spectacular happens.

So it's the end of day 1 for the uberman adaptation period, if you don't count the couple of days I spent not sleeping to prepare. I didn't sleep during the first two naps of the day but for the remaining four naps I fell asleep in about a minute each time. This surprised me in a really good way, because the actual falling asleep part is what worried me the most about the 20 minute naps. No dreams in the naps, but it would be weird if I did have dreams, that's the whole point of the adaptation I'm pretty sure. Sleep deprivation is taking its toll on me however. I have trouble remembering just about anything, a lot of the time I feel downright narcoleptic, and right now I'm seeing things out of the corners of my eyes. However, it is bearable. My next nap is in an hour, I'm excited for day 2.

So it's the beginning of day 3 now. I've fallen asleep for every single nap except for those first two and it's pretty much always within two to four minutes, which is a pretty cool experience falling asleep that fast. I have been experiencing some serious narcolepsy and sleep deprivation symptoms; last night I took a walk to stay awake and ended up just being terrified the entire time because I was hallucinating so much out of the corners of my eyes. For anyone else planning on doing this, physical activity is a must. I started out with walks but I think now I'm going to do a combination of walking and dancing because I don't always feel like leaving the house at 4am in the morning.

I have yet to have any dreams during the naps. After the first couple naps, pretty much all of my naps happen instantaneously and the only reason I know they happened is because I'll be laying in bed for a minute preparing to sleep and then suddenly the alarm clocks go off and that means I fell asleep and didn't notice. Over the next two or three days I'm expecting some things to get worse and some things to get better. If things stay on schedule I should expect to have a dream or two in the next two or three days but I can also look forward to some serious sleep deprivation and narcolepsy. I'm going to have to devise some intricate strategies to make sure I don't oversleep my naps at these points, since I don't have someone to wake me up in the middle of the night. I might try the schedule where if you think you are going to have trouble during certain periods you double the frequency of your naps. Either way, I'm looking forward to whatever happens and even if I do oversleep I'll just stay on schedule as if nothing happened.

It's also worth noting that with the sleep deprivation and narcolepsy, when it's bad it's a lot worse than when I started however when it's not as bad I generally feel a lot better than when I started out on the schedule.

so, uh, can we can safely assume that he died during day 3?
      Sensei and markov like this.

Although travel in the phase can lead to many places, this does not mean that the phase allows travel through or use of actual, alternate worlds. The practitioner should be reasonable"

Lol sorry about that. The adaptation period got a lot less dramatic immediately after those days. It's day six now and except for a 6 hour oversleep yesterday morning, I have stuck to the schedule religiously. I can feel myself adapting slowly to it; I spend less time feeling tired and narcoleptic and more time during the day feeling relatively normal. However, I still haven't dreamed yet during a nap which is kind of annoying. The naps always feel instantaneous, which can be very confusing at times. This morning I was moments away from taking another nap immediately after my first nap but then I caught myself.

I don't know if it's because I've been pretty sleep deprived this entire academic semester and I'm conditioned to it, but overall this adaptation was not that bad. Once you figure out the physical activity such as dancing can be used to combat the narcolepsy very effectively, it's pretty much smooth sailing. I probably won't post in here again until I start dreaming because I can't imagine the rest of the adaptation will be that interesting, but let me know if anyone has any questions about adapting to uberman.

I have heard that it is after you are completely adapted that you start getting those LDs. Glad to hear you are doing better. Personally if I am a certain height of tired I can't LD. I imagine that when you get back to your normal wake-ness you will be able to LD again.

Honestly I'm not performing any techniques or anything because I just want to focus on the falling asleep aspect. Plus the idea for me would be that once I fully adapted, I'll be able to WILD on command, since pretty much everyone says that you learn how to sleep in under a minute. As of now I always fall asleep in under 3 minutes for the naps so I don't have that much farther to go. And if that doesn't work I'm sure that any MILD that you do would be a lot more effective if you are dreaming 3-5 minutes after finishing the technique.

But besides that I'm really happy right now because I just woke up from a nap and realized that I had been dreaming. I didn't remember ANYTHING from the dream, the only reason I knew that I was dreaming was because when I got up I was thinking that this nap didn't feel instantaneous like very other nap until now and then I realized I had some fragmented memories from a dream. This is fantastic news because first of all it means that my adaptation is on the uphill (the REM naps are supposed to be way more refreshing than the original naps and it's true, I feel a lot better than I usually do and I barely got any REM in this nap) and it also means that I'm on the way to start lucid dreaming with the uberman schedule!

Also so everyone knows I probably won't post in here again until it's dreaming or lucid dreaming related stuff but if you have questions about the adaptation or anything related please feel free to ask me.

Nope, I'm happily back on a semi-normal sleeping schedule. For anyone who wants to do this, make sure you really really want it. As in, doing it for only lucid dreaming simply won't be enough motivation to do this sort of thing.

However, even though I never fully adapted, it's worthwhile to say that doing this did help me with my insomnia.

      Glad it helped your insomnia.

sad to see you quit though. I think that doing it just for LDing would be enough if you were passionate enough about LDing. LDing is as good as reason as any in my book.
