      Technique Questions and Vacation

      Hello All,

So I'm kind of at a weird point in my lucid dreaming journey
-I've had 3 short and blurry DILDs
-I want to try like a lot of techniques at once(DILD WILD WBTB SSILD DEILD)
-I do self awareness reality checks
-I have phases of on and off dream recall

Basically, I want to DILD for life sake but techniques that involve WBTB excite me

Also starting my vacation in Colorado today in which I'll be hiking and seeing beautiful sights, should I just do regular awareness stuff?

Any suggestions, ideas, and resourceful info is appreciated

      Thanks,
      -EmptyBucket

Trying a whole bunch of techniques all at once sounds overly complicated and unnecessary.

I personally suggest sticking with one technique for a few weeks and get used to it for greater chances of a LD.

Since you'll be vacationing, WBTB plus DILD or MILD would be a good combo. Being in a new place usually makes WBTB more effective.

The best advice I can give? Enjoy the vacation, and the scenery! With luck it will transition into some pleasant lucid dreams.

BTW, have you looked over any of the tutorials on DILD or WBTB? Might not be a bad idea to get some perspective and understand what may or may not help with the process.

First of all, I will not advise to try too many techniques at once, but if you want to, then do it and see what works for you.

Some techniques are not very compatible, especially in the beginning. For example, you don't want to go to bed with this intention: "Tonight I will remember to realize that I am dreaming, I will remember to not move upon awakening, I will remember my dreams, I will do SSILD if DEILD fails, I will have long lucid dreams, I will have control, I will do this and that" etc. Too many intentions to an unaccustomed mind.

Start with a few techniques. Do self-awareness training during the day and make any intentions for plans during a lucid dream during the day as well. Maybe start with DEILD. Go to bed with the intention to not move upon awakening. Let this be your main focus! If you do move, then set your intention and go back to sleep. Keep it this way until doing so becomes almost automatic. Fortunately WILD, SSILD, and DEILD are all in the same family, DEILD just being a much easier version of WILD, so when you become proficient at remaining still, and you do move for some reason or other, you can then begin to line up a WILD or SSILD immediately after without setting intention again.

Then perhaps you can add another intention, this time using only this, and so on.

A good example is dream recall. In the beginning you may need to set the intention to recall your dreams, but with journaling and habit you won't need this anymore.

About your hike: I would say the most important thing is to just enjoy it. If you are really into and enjoy constant self awareness, then great. If not, then do it at certain times.

Feel free to disregard all of this and do whatever you want. This is usually my technique that I call being stubborn.

What you have to begin by doing is to begin from the root and then choose from the variations branching from it.

There are two ways of practising and that is:

      The indirect way: DILD

      And the direct way: WILD

Then there are a various ways to go from there. I used to for example totally focus on just recall because I thought (and was intrigued) by the idea that the intention of remembering your dreams, will in turn make you become more aware of your dreams and because of that experience more vivid dreams. And this starts a positive circle.
Later on I was more intrigued by the little science I had about the brain and it's correlation with dreams, like for example I had some theory about the aminergic system (governing the critical thinking in the brain) becoming more active on awakenings, so I started to wake up seveal times with alarms and so on. And now I am interested in the Monroe Institute's view of Focus levels so now I even practise during the day.

So you see that even though all this can be translated into methods the importance doesn't really is in what you do, but WHY you do it.

Which is why the only one who can answer what you should do, is yourself.

Since WBTBs excite you, I think that sounds like a good starting point.

      Sweet dreams.
