How to RC when talking to people?

Are there any good ways of reality checking when talking to people? It’s difficult to do any of the normal RC’s like looking at your hands, pinching your nose etc. when in the midst of a conversation -- it always looks too obvious. So are there any good ways of accurately deducing whether or not it’s a dream in situations like this? Or are there perhaps any types of RC’s which would be suited to these kinds of situations? Thanks for your ideas.

If the situation is only talking to people I would pause all your thoughts and what you were saying to them and just focus on one part of the person. Lets say their face, stare in to their face for as long as you can without thinking of anything else. If it is a dream you will begin to realize that you're having a difficult time looking at them intentionally. However if you're wrong and actually awake brush it off to the person by saying they have nice eyes.
Another one is by doing the same steps in pausing all your thoughts to one focus which this time it will be your mouth. When speaking to the person try to bite your mouth on purpose with a little bit of force. Usually the dream may interpret the pain incorrectly and not seem as much force or pain as it would in real life. If you suspect something was off with the amount of force you did then chances are you are dreaming because this one has happen to me frequently.

Have you tried to simply close your fist and try to run your finger through your palm? There are a lot of ways to go about RCs, so just choose one that you find is good for you even when talking.

Imagine something random clearly or something you know well like your empty shoe or watch to be on the floor or desk, out of your eye sight then look for it expecting to see it.. like it should be there. Or expect something to happen, like a dog to show up, or control the person talking to make them say something random.

Pull on your finger discretely to see if it stretches out long for you.

Ask yourself in your mind how did I get here? Run quickly your mind in rewind, what are the things you had been doing before getting into this conversation?

An RC doesn't necessarily have to be a real action like pinching your nose or looking at your hands. The most important thing for DILDs is to break out of the plot the dream is playing and realise that everything is fake, simply at random intervals or when you're suspicious just stop reading my words and stare at the wall infront of you for a second... Am I dreaming?

Pay attention to certain details of the conversation and situation. Who are you talking to, and how do you know them? Does what they're saying make sense? Where are you, and how did you get there? If you're dreaming, you may be unable to answer some or all of those questions.

      Great ideas, all.

      ViIe:

Interesting idea. I don’t think I’ve looked at DC’s directly in LD’s before but I have sometimes noticed that it takes a short while for their face to come into ‘focus’ before you can see them clearly -- a bit like reading text in a dream. Also, the biting your mouth during conversations idea sounds good; also very discrete.

      Hukif:

The traditional finger-through-palm RC hasn’t been very successful for me in dreams, but this version sounds a lot more interesting. I think though, it might be more difficult because with pushing your finger through your palm with one hand only, it can be difficult to imagine what it would feel like (and the movement is more limited). But if this could work consistently it would make for an excellent RC. I’ll certainly try it out.

      Everyone else:

Yes I can see the benefit of asking some bigger questions as well. Usually when talking to DC’s, I usually say things that I wouldn’t say in reality, or find that the DC is talking about something which doesn’t make much sense for the context of the situation. Also, the plot of the dream always seems to obscure things and makes it difficult to know if these things actually make sense, so it's worth taking them into account.

Actually I pinch my nose all the time while I'm standing in groups of people. I cover it as a "nose itch" I dont just use two fingers I use my whole hand (like this http://media.katu.com/images/stock_plug_nose.jpg ) and I do it quickly while asking in my head "Is this a dream" and so far no one has said anything to me.
