Unhappy Help a newbie in need??!!

So i'm a newb, I've had a lucid dream. (A short one) I've almost had a 2nd one, but only to wake up in time of attaining lucidity. It's been almost 3 weeks since I started my training and I've thats all the lucids i had! My problem is I have problems falling asleep. It takes me forever. While I'm sleeping, I can't focus on one thing since it takes me so long to fall asleep. I think about having a lucid, but my mind eventually drifts to something else. I've tried so many techniques but it seems like they all involve focusing on one thing and fall asleep focusing on that one thing. I can't do that. Any advice?

So you've been at it for about 3 weeks and have tried many techniques? That's a red flag right there. You're not giving yourself enough time to see if certain techniques work for you. Many members here would consider 1 lucid in 3 weeks a major victory. Don't try to rush it because that will get you absolutely nowhere. Better to take you time and get lucid every so often than to rush it and not have any for a long time.

As for focusing on things, maybe you're focusing on things too hard? It's hard to tell without knowing what you've tried.

It's really dedication I think, it's hard to give advice if you can't focus on one thing, my only advice would be to try WILD which doesn't really involve that stuff

i've tried wild, but I guess I'll give it another go.

I know, but it seems like every newb has already had more lucid dreams than me. Even my friend, who doesn't even practice lucid dreams, already had one just because I kept telling him about lucid dreaming and I always did reality checks in front of him. It just seems like I suck at it. But maybe your right, I'll try to slow down.

dont worry, it takes time and for some its easier and for others its harder. i usually have a hard time getting to bed to and i just got out of a recall slump(although my recall still isnt nearly as good as it was lol). and u beat me by alot, it took me like 2 months for my first fully lucid dream and i havent had one since cuz of the slump. anyways, keep trying and dont push it. just give it some time

ok I guess it's because I usually learn everything quickly and now I have stumbled upon something that takes patience which is what I lack, lol.

Haha yeah, no worries. As long as you're dedicated and stay persistent, you'll start getting tons of LDs.
My advice would be to pick a method for attaining lucidity and stick with it for a while, just work on getting successful with one.

      Best of luck!

I've been practicing LD for a while now and I haven't had that many. I told my girlfriend about them and explained to her as to how they happen... She woke up the next day and called me that she had one. Don't try too hard. It's supposed to be fun, not hard work.

Simply calm down and don't panic. Treat it like going to a gym. As you do not build apprec. mus. in a month, you cannot learn to control your focus and mind set all at once.

lol i completely understand what you go through!

at first i LD'd for a few seconds, and then almost LD'd and since then, nothing.

it's been 3 weeks since i started, i am now concidering DILDing my first priority method because it is probably the easiest for me at this moment.

I don't know how well it works, but I'm trying a method where my watch goes off every 30 minutes, and when I hear it I do a reality check, so that when I hear it in my sleep I'll become lucid. Copyright to catzisconfus, I think this was their idea.

And I know what you mean saying it's hard to focus on one thing. I keep getting songs stuck in my head, and they won't go away when I'm trying to concentrate at night. I've also fallen asleep a couple of times before I bothered to chant my mantra...

Iv had a lot of success with MILD. It took a little while though for my subconscious to understand what I wanted it to do, and then about another month for it to do it consistently. That;s the key for me and probable just about everyone. I really think that all these methods are very good and very reliable, but it just takes practice. And arguable, in my opinion, its more important is to be consistent. I found that if I just practice every other night, I really didnt get the desired results. while when I practiced every night I became lucid much quicker (duh). Lucid dreaming is a skill, just like guitar, painting, and hell even math. Its just takes regular, consistent, practice.

      RC's are THE answer

You had some good replies above.

I could ad that doing RC's on a daily basis (5 to 10 times a day) is THE best way to induce LDs. DILDs are waaayyy easier to achieve for most noobs than WILDs, and even for me (Ive been LDing for 12+years). WILDs are for people who fall asleep easy. Not my case.

What I found the best RC is to look at your watch. If the numbers are alien or just crazy, you're dreaming. It helps to wear a wristwatch all day, and set the timer to beep every few hours. Then RC.

You'll know you're getting results when you remember to RC minutes before the timer beeps. Then you know your subconscious is paying attention to the exercise. When it happens, you usually have an LD within days.

Remember, as with most things in life, practice breeds perfection. If you dont give up, you're bound to succeed!

Oh, and the hard part: dont forget to oversleep! Those lazy morning hours in bed bring the best LDs! I know, it's hard, but someone's gotta do it!

PM me if you need any more advice, im glad to help.
      Peace.

I've got the same problem as you.. none of the techniques work for me and I also have alot of trouble falling asleep.

Seriously, everything you said in your first post is the exact same as me.

I had 1 last week that lasted like 20 seconds before I fell back into non-lucidity.. and last night I went lucid for 2 seconds but then I had a false awakening and didn't think to RC again.

Another thing I forgot: Its not enough to ask yourself if you're dreaming as the RC. You have to BE PRESENT. Bring awareness to the moment, try to recall what you have done in the last hour, try to recall where you are and which day is it.

If you just do RCs in a robotic, mechanic manner, they won't be very effective. However, if you do them right (with AWARENESS), they are VERY effective. I found that doing 6~8 RCs a day for 2 weeks heaps amazing results even for novices.

If you can't have a watch beeping all day (like, classes or work to attend), some cellphones can be programmed to vibrate with a timer. It's less conspicuous, for sure.

And eventually you'll become so amazed by your LDs that you won't need RC reminders at all, you'll spend your days thinking about LD. Just don't give up.

      good luck

I don't have a watch, but I RC whenever I remember to which is about 15 times a day and when I RC I try to be as aware as possible. I focus on the RC and I always say "Am I dreaming" clearly and loudly. I try to blur out everything around me.

If you can keep 15 times a day without a watch or other reminder, then you' re more than fine. Keep doing it and soon you'll be havind several LDs a week. One thing though: don't expect to LD every night. Most people just can't do it, no matter how hard they practice. I find that once or twice a week, if consistently, is a great pace. Also, when you stop practicing, your LD count will go down drastically.

Also, get these books: Laberge's "Exploring the world of lucid dreams" and "Tibetan yogas of dream and sleep", by Tenzin Rimpoche. Must have for serious LDers.
PM me if you need more info on them.
      Peace
