strange thing I heard in hypnagogia

Hypnagogia can be very strange sometimes - earlier (trying to WILD) I heard a doctor of some kind talking to somebody who asked what would happen if your body woke up without your mind while you were lucid, and the doctor replied 'it happened once, the man turned into a vegetable because the mind was stuck in the dream state...'

I've heard people say some strange/scary things that sounded very realistic, too. It's wierd.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

neither - It was between times, during hypnagogia (the WILD was unsuccessful this time) . It often feels like I'm listening in to other peoples conversations - does anybody else get that?

yes I had it this morning. I woke up at three and couldn't fall back to sleep, so I read a book for 3 hours. when I went back to sleep I kept drifting in and out of unvivid dreams. In the begining and between maybe a couple of the dreams I heard some weird shit like people talking to me or something and images but I can't remember what. I was aware of my self going in and out dreams but I only managed to WILd in one but lost lucidity shortly after.

Im glad this thread was started now; i just recently had an experience just like this. I was going to take a nap and ended up doing so but the voices happened quite soon after i laid down and closed my eyes. I was lying there and suddenly multiple faces appeared in the darkness of my eyelids accompanied by voices. They seemed logically connected to the faces, as in a woman's face would be accompanied by a woman's voice etc.. It was very disturbing to say the least since i was not in the hypnagogic state.
Perhaps this is something connected to greater experience in my life but it definitely happens more pointedly when i am lying down to sleep. Either way, I see what you are saying and it is definitely one hell of an experience.

Very interesting! Do you think it is possible for hypnagogia to be anything other than just the subconscious mind babble? What I mean is, is it possible that when you hear these voices that it may not just be your own mind but everybody else's also? And perhaps that if this was the case, would it then be possible to manipulate what it is you listen in on?

This is something I started thinking a lot about when I first moved to Bangkok. The city has 15 million people...quite a bit more than where I normally live in Ohio. I remember the first time I went to sleep in my apartment in Bangkok...I just laid in bed for hours listening to people talking in various languages in my head. I'd never experienced anything like it before. It even seemed like I could control it in a way, consciously, like moving between conversations. Most people were speaking in Thai and other asian languages, but then I heard people speaking in french, german, english, spanish, italian, swedish, etc. etc. etc. It felt real to me. The energy there is so different than what I'm used to...it doesn't surprise me that something weird like that might happen. After I lived there for a few weeks I got used to it and stopped hearing the voices when I would go to sleep. I've been back home in Ohio for 2 years now, and it's never happened again.

yes fear will do anything it can to hold you back sometimes. on salvia ive had hypnagogic imagery that can be as bad as being surrounded by hundreds of people all looking at you and judging and making out that what you are doing is horrendously wrong. until you get out and realise it was all some bizarre trick of the mind to hold you back...

i think a lot of the subconscious mind babble has been massively effected by what we see in popular culture and all the brainwashing involved. that stuff can build up quite a level of fear if you let it get to you. so in a way all our subconscious minds are linked and the things that buzz round your head are there because of someone/thing else. i took a long time evaluating this after taking acid because it felt like i was actually being somehow attacked on the subconscious level at the time. later i figured that it was just a result of becoming aware of the negative thoughtforms and ideas that come about from years of being exposed to fear inducing techniques and simple fear of the unknown

Well... I've never heard voices, or people speaking to me in a dream state ... but I have had a dream where I became semi-lucid and then couldn't wake up for a bit. (sort of like your initial question about what you heard while in that dream state about not being able to wake up if your body wakes without your mind).
It was really scary, I was dreaming that I was driving, and I noticed something unrealistic about the road, so I became lucid, knowing I was dreaming. The dream became disturbing (dark clouds covered the sky and I kept driving... I was lucid but I couldn't control the dream. So, I tried 'opening my eyes' to wake up and I just couldn't. It was like I was straining to open my eyes and they just wouldn't open. Finally, my eyes 'opened' but I just went to another dream(i didn't wake up and really open my eyes). when I transferred dreams I immediately lost lucidity... and soon after I woke up...

It was really weird... could my mind have been protecting my body from being awoken in an odd dream state by not letting me wake up?
And why was I transferred from a lucid dream into a dream that I was not lucid at all in?

Yeah, the other morning I was hearing full conversations in my head. And I heard LaBerge talking haha. I have one of his audio CDs so that how I knew it was him. It was weird because that same morning hearing the voices, I started thinking about my binaural beats, and then I heard that. I use to always see multiple faces as I was falling asleep, but that doesn't happen anymore.

One time I heard little kids giggling/playing. Seems like it should have been creepy but at the time it was very interesting.
