Hi gab...hope you're well. I find it all very interesting. My lucid events, and most of my dreams, are limited and often short, so to be honest, I find dream research maybe more rewarding. Without it, I wouldn't have discovered McKenna, Adyshanti, or taken up secular Buddism and meditation. I wouldn't be (as a slow-learning layman) researching the brain, DMT and psilocybins.

When I lay down to sleep I usually reach a stage, where a change comes over me. Like you, I have these muttered sayings (the obvious being "bring the mind home") When I feel the change, it's "here we go." Last night, it lasted longer...it's difficult to describe...my heart speeds up, I get disjointed thoughts and images and the feeling that something bigger is going to happen. It's not quite as strong as the "rushes" I used to get. I remembered instructions about not trying too hard, when a dream assembles during DILD, so I relaxed and let things happen. But, as per usual, I didn't end up going somewhere...it just gradually faded.

IMO, when I'm meditating/dozing I sometimes hit a "sweet spot," an optimum stage, when I can obtain the strongest images. Other times, the images are further away and more indistinct...and that's strange...why further away, or is it just smaller because it's not the "sweet spot?"
The other day I saw a small, but brightly coloured, Youtube Video (what it was about, I haven't a clue...) There was a orange and yellow surround around the video...can people create that sort of effect around their vids? Maybe my brain knows how easily I'm pleased. "Let's show the old boy something...anything..and then perhaps he'll go away."
Still alive, still thinking, still dreaming, still researching and still waiting for Autumn.

Interesting stuff, thank you for posting it.

My main RC is looking at hands and when I closed my eyes falling asleep, I just said "hand" and I got an image on the back of my eyelids of a hand that was just a bit lighter than the darker "fog". It just happened, I didn't practice for it to happen, and it was surprising. I did this every night just out of curiosity if the image gets more "real" looking and one day I got a photograph of a real hand.

And yes, european winters are dark and wet and cold and yucky. I feel for ya. Greetings from sunny California : D

The few I have had have been very similar. I haven't even remembered to do a reality check or any stabilisation, and it fades fast. There's a good guide to the levels of lucidity on utube somewhere and mine to date rate atabout the first level. I'm sure it's case of practice makes perfect and each one is a learning experience to be built on.
      Good luck with your plans...

Well done, doing better than I am. It's a long term project this lucid dreaming. I hope you get some more.

Wishing you a successful procedure and a quick recovery. Me, I'm more aiming more for a woblybil-style afterlife full of hot girls, but I may need to a break from time to time so may come chill in the ground luminosity. Those girls can be so demanding, always whining about the lights not working...

P.S. I'm in hospital for "turbinate surgery" tomorrow (nose job to you) so I may well be absentia for a while...I'm old so if I don't make it back I'll see you on the other side (although don't count on it cos I will be trying to rest in the "ground luminosity" as the Buddhists put it...me, I want out.....)

If "Ed" accurately mirrors my age then he's maybe forgotten what one looks like. I'm now firmly convinced that "Ed" is just a brain keeping my "mind" going until he or some other part fails...and I think that he does the best he can with the dwindling supplies of testosterone etc (poor old bugger)

But maybe, one day, Vic (my pineal gland) might take a turn for the better then watch out...to infirmity and beyond!

Woohoo! Great progress, keep it up! ("That's what she said!").

I find non-lucid sex a bit "vague" in the sensation department, usually. It sounds like "Ed" was just a bit lagging on the skin color rendering. I've noticed that, too, when looking at my hands all of a sudden (but only when lucid). I don't ever seem to "look down" when non-lucid, but lucidly it seems rendered properly (usually nicely dream-super-sized ).

Hi Frying Man...glad to hear you're doing well. I'll pop in now and again over the next few months then hopefully, with nose unblocked and horizons stretched I'll get back fully onto the dream machine again.

What I'll really be reaching for is the ability to recognize the "ground luminosity" at the point of death and that will only happen if I can develop my awareness/mindfulness to the best of my ability.

Also, have you seen this? (Not sure whether I mentioned this before) This really turns me on

I'd take DMT like a shot (although, at my age it might kill me) I'd certainly take it if I knew I was near to death. Maybe getting it will be easier by then.

      regards

      Welcome back, again (again!)!

The most awesome thing about raised awareness is that it doesn't take much really to get started. Just take a moment now and then to slow down, look around, take a deep breath, and realize that *you* are *here*, *now*.

A lot of the Buddhist teachings/practices resonate with me too, but I'm not Buddhist, you don't have to be.

I've had a big surge in vividness and presence in dreams over the last half year, I credit this to the combination of continued (non-stop) work on dream recall, and daytime awareness (basically, just *paying attention*, it's not really any more involved than that!).

I read, with concern this article about the function of sleep as a probable brain-flushing procedure. Even though this doesn’t necessarily mean anything in terms of dream attempts, it is a cause of deep concern to me because, at my age, I cannot afford to take the risk
Do you have a title of the article, I'd love to read it.

If what you're concerned about is 'losing your mind' because of lucid dreaming, it's possible. If you have a life, job, family, etc, lucid dreaming can toss a wrench into that stuff. Though there are methods to allowing it to enhance your life too. Self-control and a clear focus of what you want to gain from the experience has been known to help.

My own brain will only present my hands when they're covered with something? I've read that you can't look in a mirror. True or false? If true, are all these things for the same reason?...to limit the chances of "dream recognition?"
False, many dreamers have looked in a mirror. Read a few journals and it'll be apparent it happens. That and things happen for a variety of reasons. With only two occurrences of visualizing your hands, it might be worthwhile to experience just a few more before you draw any conclusions.

Dream recognition can be a challenge for many. Even the 'experienced' dreamers. Don't beat yourself up over it, it's counterproductive.

In my personal experience, I might add, I always try to start lucid dreaming, then once i have a lucid dream its right before some great event in my life takes place. I can't really explain it but lucid dreaming helps me in so many ways I don't really believe what some article has to say. If it "flushes my brain" it must be a good thing. I google searched lucid dreaming and brain flushing and I could only find articles talking about how good lucid dreaming is for people and how they might use "dream therapy" or something lol.

I don't really understand the issue is what I'm getting at. I will miss you though, have fun
