    Lucid #224: Speedboat

I’m racing along on a speedboat, seated on a wooden chair that’s lashed to the deck. The wind buffets my hair and face. I’m much younger, a high school student again, and there are about a dozen or so other passengers, mostly other high schoolers. I think we’re on some kind of cool, high-speed fieldtrip.

A girl walks across the deck near the front of the boat and I think that she looks way too young to be the same age as me. It hits me that
    I must be dreaming!

I spend a couple seconds enjoying the wind, the speed, and the outdoors, but now it’s time to get down to business. I intend to summon Dreamer, so I look to my left to see if I have any DCs to work with. There’s a woman seated to my left, looking away from me out over the water as we race along. She has long, blonde, somewhat sun-damaged hair.

“Hey look, you’re becoming Dreamer,” I say, stroking my fingers through her hair and leaving purple streaks where I touch. After two or three strokes, her hair is completely purple-ified and when she turns to face me, it’s Dreamer! “You’re here!” I say.

She’s wearing a huge smile and vaguely seems to be trying to talk, but seems somehow tired and unable to speak clearly. I wonder if she needs more time, so I turn to the right and think about doing a couple of dream control tasks before doing anything further with her.

Another speedboat approaches from our right. I wave my hand, lifting it into the air, and then throwing it forcefully ahead of our boat. It hits the river ahead of us with a huge spray of water and then (quite improbably) disappears.

I look to the right riverbank and see a large number of pixellated children running along the hilly shoreline, pointing laughing and shouting. They look precisely like characters from an 8-bit video game. I’m trying to show off more telekinesis, so I lift about ten of these kids into the air and then throw them along the shore in the direction the boat’s. Most of them land on their feet and start bouncing along, following the boat, but one or two land oddly and disappear into the ground. I feel bad about this and resummon a couple more to take their place, pretending they’re the same.

    Not much later,
    the dream ends.

I hear the same thing works with hamsters

LOL. I've got young children, so this trick could come in very handy one day.

Wow, nice work with the awesome dream control moves!

You're becoming pro at the DC/Dreamer change! And that hair painting trick sounds really cool!

Those TK skills are impressive, and it seemed so effortless! Were you feeling confident at the time?

The 8-bit characters sound interesting, and a nice little hat tip to your gaming roots.

Haha, I laughed at you throwing the kids into the air, and how sweet of you to summon the lost children back.

Really cool dream, congrats on a great night of lucidity!

I second the awesomeness of your dream control. In particular, just lifting the boat out of the water as though it were nothing. Very cool!

@Dreamer - Thanks, yeah my confidence was high in this one! I'd managed to get really remotivated and psyched up throughout the afternoon and evening, so I was ready to roll by the end. For the TK, around bedtime I remembered back to some massive telekinesis stuff I did in my 100th LD (a real milestone one for me) that really broke dream control open for me in a way no previous dream had. I think it made a big difference.

Yeah, the transformation approach is working great! It seems like a reliable way to go, too, because I find myself much more patient with the process. If it takes a couple minutes I don't lose my mind and start freaking out (as I sometimes do with the "behind the back" stuff.) Rather than a "it didn't work" it's a "look, it's working" kind of feeling.

And thanks, the little 8-bit kids amused me too. It seemed quite random to me at the time, but I'm a gamer. There's just no denying who I am I guess!

Prepare for further summoning! Speaking of which I need to remember to get member challenge points for this one!

@ThreeCat - Thanks! At least in this dream, it felt like it should be nothing to do this, and so of course it was. I don't know how to bottle that mindset and uncork it later but I hope I can keep it handy through the competition! It sometimes goes missing.

@fogelbise - Thanks, man, it was! Maybe next time I'll get a cool explosion or something, ha ha...

@Xanous - Appreciate that, dude, I wouldn't be surprised if reading all of your mad wizard exploits has helped me with this stuff!

^^Great idea! I bet it would help to think about a fire and/or explosion as it lands perhaps...or throwing another TK motion at it or a fireball...I bet it would be interesting at the very least.

Good idea! And if the fireball's not satisfactory, I guess there's the element manipulation opportunity, right? Can't say that's one I've done a lot with yet! Maybe if I can get my thrown vehicles to explode properly using your ideas I can finally learn it.

Wow, you've come a long way, Canis! I'm going to have to agree on the very impressive dream control. I loved the hair thing, little tricks like that always make me smile haha. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks, Alysendra, I appreciate that! I've been lucky enough to get some very good advice along the way from the folks here. And then after enough practicing/failures, even I'm able to internalize some of it.

Fantastic dream control! Super efficient DC transformation, really nice part with changing the hair color. I think you are getting super good at getting Dreamer in any kind of situation now.

Awesome Tking there, and also thanks as this just helped recall a vague fragment of low level-ld where I was doing mass tk on couple of objects in the room. Wish I could remember more but it's still better than nothing.

Oh sweet, I'm really glad this helped dredge up a previously lost dream! That's cool! Yours didn't happen to be the same day was it? It'd be cool if we were throwing things around at the same time.

Yeah calling up Dreamer is getting easier and easier! The DV member challenge has been so effective for practicing the summon skill!
