I was first visiting my friend R, and I brought pierogi for her family to taste.

Then R and her family were visiting us. We were expecting some extended family of hers whom I had not met yet. Someone looked in through my window. I went to look who it was. It was a woman with a girl. It soon became clear they were Polish. They came from Krakow. They wanted to come in and join the party. I said not today. Maybe though if they came another time, my kids could play with the girl at playground. I had the impression they were poor, and I was not sure I would trust them inside my home.

After they left, my friend R and I had an argument out of character for her. She was saying they were poor and needed help, but that how could I justify helping them if there were even more needy people in Senegal? (I do not know why specifically Senegal.) We argued for a while and parted angry.
