      Difficulty exerting control

So, I have about 9 lucids now and i still can not exert much control. The only real control I had other than walking around where I wanted to was dream spinning into a new environment. The other night I became lucid through a reality check. I then decided I was going to fly. I attempted to super man jump into the air with full belief that I could do it, and I jumped up and basically fell on my face. In other dreams I have tried to summon people, and it has not worked. Although, I was able to make lucid pills in one dream. I can't seem to figure out why controlling my dreams isn't working to well. Any suggestions or advice would be nice.

Jumping up and expecting to fly as well as magically attempting to summon people are forms of active control, which can be tough to do. Instead of forcing things, sometimes it helps to passively control your dreams. For example, if you want to summon someone, walk up to a DC and ask if they know where that person is. Often times they will say yes, and point you in the right direction. As for flying, you could use some sort of aid, like a jetpack or rocket shoes, then disable them once you're at a comfortable speed.

Do not try to control your dream — that's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth: there is no dream. And you'll see that it is not the dream that's being controlled, it is only yourself.

There is no dream? I can not control the dream, only myself? I may be getting the wrong idea from what you are saying, but it seems like that makes no sense. I have changed my dream scape before, I myself consider that changing my dream. If what you are trying to say is that a dream is just all part of my sub conscious mind and its merely just an idea being played out in my head than I sort of see what you are saying by telling me that there is no dream. But if there is no dream and I am only controlling my self then what is it that I do while sleeping every night, if it isnt a dream? Than what is it.

There is a dream and you can control just about every aspect of it. Everything in dreams are based on your expectations; if you can fully believe something will happen, that's already half the battle. Sometimes expectations alone won't work, however, so try imagining exactly what will happen - down to the senses, like taste, touch, or tactile sensations. If you're flying, "feel" yourself being propelled into the air with some force that works against gravity, and imagine the wind blowing past you. As for summoning or essentially anything else, use the same principles; visualize the person as much as you can. Hope that helps, and good luck.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

As for summoning people, sometimes it's easier just to walk up to a DC and ask them to lead you to the person your trying to summon.

One trick I use to summon people is just to pretend you know they are behind you and then turn around. You can make up these tricks on your own, however, it does take time to get more and more control. Flying is exotic and strange to you now, so it may take time. Start with controlling things your brain can currently relate to. Something simple would be to intentionaly go somewhere you are familiar with. Another easier one is to plan on finding a certain object. My first dream control attempt was simply to find a sword. It to a while even to do that.
Puffin is absoutly correct about how you do these things. All I am suggesting is learn to effect the dream slowly by working with less extrodanary things.
Your brain can easily imagine that the sun will set. So an early goal could be to believe that will happen, and then have it actually take place in the dream.
Peace Be With You. Oh, and sure, The Force too, why not.

Take your time, explore the dream world. Take baby steps, you have to learn to crawl before you walk ie flying etc. Summoning people is quite the task, it usually doesn't work out exactly how you intended. As for flying, it takes practice. Have no fear though, fear or self doubt will only trigger failure. Try leaping first, or getting a running start. Stand on a building and leap off, baby steps. Good luck!

Thanks, I've been trying to keep it simple lately. Although, one of my major goals is to talk to a DC after becoming lucid, like more than just saying "I'm dreaming, I'm dreaming" I would like to be able to have them carry out tasks for me or just have a deep convo with them and really realize how I'm not talking to who they look like but that I'm actually talking to my inner self basically.

A word of advice: don't get TOO involved with your conversation. If you go along with the dream plot too much then you may end up losing lucidity. This doesn't mean you can't talk with DCs, though.

Ok, I will keep that in mind. But yea I have heard that DCs will try to throw you off the lucid track sometimes, and just getting to deep into the convo may make me believe that it is real and I will lose lucidity.

So for myself, the trick to flying and other direct manipulation of dreams has always been to simply focus on that one thing. understand that anything can happen in a dream, it isn't hard to control your dream at all.. you do control your dream all the time. It's just hard to not think about failing. If you think about the possibility that you won't fall, that the person won't appear, etc, then that is what will happen. You can't think about what happens if you fail, you can't think about failing, and you can't try not to think about failing.. all of these is negative effort that makes it harder than it needs to be. The only thing you can do is focus on exactly what you want to have and only that.
      well wishes,

Yea that's the info I've been gathering for a little while now, I just need to believe I can do it. With practice I'll start to get it down soon, Thanks for the advice.
