So, let me ask a question...do you have fear of loss during your waking hours? Have you lost any family members or had unresolved feelings after someone's passing?
I'm just trying to get an idea for your personal thought processes, no offense intended.
Mortality is a tough thing to come to terms with, and as emotional connections are so much stronger in dreams, a small thought can turn into a big issue. The hard part is not allowing these thoughts to have power over you, in waking life or your dreams.
If you have any skills with lucid dreaming I would suggest summoning people. The easiest way is to simply think that when you turn a corner or walk into a room that the person will just 'be there' and you can interact with them. If your lucid dreaming abilities aren't up for the task, simple suggestion might help, a phrase or thought repeated over and over prior to sleeping.
Let me know if you would like me to point you in the right direction for anything related to lucid dreaming.
