Rip 'Em Off
No Opinion
Leave the poor saps alone
I consider myself a spiritual person. I'm not so sure about believe but I do hope that there is an afterlife of some kind. When it comes to people ripping off new agers, I can honestly say.. go for it. If you're stupid enough to buy into crap like that then your money deserves to go to someone smarter than you. Natural selection in the areas of finance if you ask me. |

For serious? |

Kinda off topic but... My dad just fell for a business scam a few minutes ago and was ripped 25 bucks. He still believes it will work. Anyone can make up something, sell it to suckers, and make a fortune. |

157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

This is reminding me of these so called "power bracelets" or whatever they are called, that give off... "natural frequencies" that work with your body to make you stronger and live longer and give you balance. They actually say these things in their commercials and I can't believe they are getting away with ripping people off. |

The thing is, it's like 30 bucks or something. So it's not gonna put anyone into any major debt. Things like massive financial fraud are just wrong. Like the banks and their re-financing fiasco. |

Some of the England cricket team wear those 'balance bracelet' things. I think I screamed for an hour when I found out. |

When it comes to what I'm willing to cash out on, my general view is that as long as you're ripping off "rich stupid people" then you're fine. However, the new age stuff CAN be harmful. Like homeopathy, for example. There's nothing wrong with the placebo effect making that headache or fatigue go away. I'm a big fan of harnessing that. However, when people with serious illness forego a simple procedure that might actually save them real quick (like having a tumor removed), in favour of some horseshit "crystal vibration therapy" type thing, and they die, that's really, really sad. And so I voted to leave the poor saps alone. |

Modern day Robin Hoods. |

Robin Hoods only if they distribute the cash between the poor later... |

A lot of people who believe in quackeries are unintelligent and poor... |

Personally, I believe being disingenuous is always unethical to a degree proportional to the disingenuous-ness. This would be similar to saying that the banks that precipitated the 2008 crash in our economy by selling variable rate mortgages to people clearly unqualified to take on that level of debt responsibility were not at fault, and those people should have known that they wouldn't be able to pay. It may be true that they should have known, but placing the blame on the victims kind of misses the point. |

I posted this years ago in the forums but this thread makes it relevant again.. this guy charges 500 bucks for phone counseling/advice from the "E.T." he allegedly channels. |

Ethical, no. Would I do it, yes. In my opinion if someone is stupid enough to fall for stupid shit, they deserve to be ripped off. They'll learn, eventually. |
|
They deserve to be ripped off, but it wouldn't be ethical to rip them off? |
|
Who needs ethics . |
