It's all in this document from BoA: http://www.wikileaks.org/IMG/pdf/Wik...esponse_v6.pdf that go leaked (by Anonymous)

This in itself is wrong. But the way they enforce this patent is absolutely criminal. Whether or not Sony has a more legitimate form of a patent (I would certainly condone patenting that technology over a DNA structure) they still basically used their patent the same way, which is unlawfully.

I would really like to see if a third party can confirm this due to the biased nature of both parties involved. Not saying it will be easy but I reserve judgement till that time comes.

Its not about knowing what is best for me. It's about justice. How many times do I have to say that? I'm talking about punishing criminal behavior.

And Monsanto sues people because their corn infects neighboring farms. Its a violation of basic logical usage of copyright. How is Sony different, suing people for doing what they please with the systems they purchased?

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

I'm homing on the statement you made before about people being too stupid to know when they are being "fucked over." I think that is the crux of this discussion. On the base level, are people too dumb to know whats best for them?

On the Monsanto incident, farmers sign contracts with the firm stating they aren't going to save seeds or sell the seeds themselves and if a farmer does this then they are breaking the contract. Now, would I like to see copyrights and patients gone? Absolutely. Yet farmers are being coerced into buying these seeds? No. I would love to see a world in which what you do with your property is your own business so long as it doesn't harm another person or their property but I also believe that if you sign into a contract, and you break that contract then there should be a penalty for such action.

Do you think they (Indian farmers) have any idea what they were getting themselves into when they signed with Monsanto? Predatory contracts between well-resourced corporations and peasant farmers who have little access to education and little time for much else besides farming count as coercion to me.

edit: slightly unrelated, but draw your own connection: "And this is because diversity creates flexibility and resiliency among and between species in the face of changing climatic and demographic conditions. In other words, with crop diversity, as Indian farmers are now discovering, a plant virus may wipe out one variety of rice, but with diverse rice species, it can’t devastate all of them. A disease may get started but not established before it moves on. Unfortunately, this is not the strategy adopted by Monsanto in India today, where their corporate agenda is a GMO mono-crop – one rice, one consumer, one supplier. And this, when a half-century ago there were as many as 500 rice varieties in India!" -Roadmap to Sustainability, Doug Brown, 2009.

And what about the farmers who had their crop infested by monsanto's pollen, who then got sued for using their product without permission?

Calling Anonymous! The police are even beating journalists now: Fox reporters beaten / sprayed

From the looks of it, the protesters are being so tightly packed that they got pushed passed the police barriers and the police started beating the ones unlucky enough to be in the front, even as they had their backs turned trying to get away. The fact that they hit two journalists shows that they take are taking the strike first, ask questions later policy. I'm hoping to see the names/contact info of those three on pastebin soon

Honestly, I think they have a case against Monsanto. They were not under contract with Monsanto. What they experienced was a positive externality that so many of us in civilization experience everyday.

And stupidity isn't a perpetual state of ignorance? Remember you said that you don't think they would "ever even know."

But if you still want to play this game, then whatever you wish to call the perpetual state of not knowing what is best for a consumer, what clouds their minds but not yours in knowing what is and isn't good for one's self?

No, stupidity is when you don't realize you're ignorant.

It's pretty simple. PSN tries to tell people what they can and can't do with the products they purchased. This is wrong, and everyone agrees. But not enough people know about it to make a difference. And even if they did, they wouldn't understand the repercussions (it would open the doors to all sorts of corporatist lawsuits). What are people supposed to do, throw out the game system they already paid for? I mean come on, have some sense.

Obviously not everyone agrees. You think that the only people who don't agree with you are ignoramuses. Everyone who knows about the terms of sale surrounding PS3 just naturally agree with you. Honestly, I am sick of immature viewpoints like this. It is the mind of a child that thinks that everything they think is right should be lorded up by the rabble around them. Grow up and realize that there are people who disagree with you and they aren't idiots for doing so. You don't have to throw out your PS3 if you don't like Sony's terms. Sell it to a friend, refuse to buy Sony products, hell buy an Xbox 360 if you are so inclined to do so, if their terms of sale are better in your mind. If that does not work, then move to PC gaming. If that does not work then go back to all reading you are doing. I would love to see a copyright or patient law case that sets a precedent of ending intellectual property because I do not believe there is such a thing but until then I find that playing my PS3 is tolerable when compared to not playing it.

Agree? They don't care, they're gamers not political activists. That's why we fight. Some of us do care, not enough to put Sony out of business.

All you need to do to realize how blatantly stupid your vote with your wallet argument is, is look at the oil industry.
