Anonymous vows to destroy Fox News on November 5th

An attack on Fox News from the hacker group Anonymous has been a longtime coming. Now the collective says that an infiltration on the website for the Fair and Balanced news network will occur next month with Operation Fox Hunt slated for November 5.
An operative with the hacktivist group Anonymous narrates a video posted to the Web on October 22 that announces that an all-out attack on the Fox News website will come next month as retaliation for the network’s unjust attack on protesters with the Occupy Wall Street movement.
“Since they will not stop ridiculing the occupiers, we will simply shut them down,” says the digitzed voice in the recent YouTube clip. “Fox News, your time has come . . . Operation Fox Hunt. November 5th. May the hunt begin,” the narrator adds.
November 5 has already been designated by members of the growing Occupy Wall street movement as a practical holiday, with “Operation Cashback” expected to occur then across the world. Under that initiative, demonstrators are asked to close bank accounts across the globe and move money out of large banks and into smaller, local credit unions. Protesters aligned with the Occupy movement have already staged small cashback-style closures in branches across the United States, with an attempt at closing accounts at a Lower Manhattan Citibank earlier this month resulting in the arrest of several occupies.
When Fox News first began coverage of Occupy Wall Street — inarguably a bit too late — their coverage was light-hearted and laughable. Fox host Megyn Kelly called a young female protester’s response to being pepper-sprayed by an unprovoked NYPD officer an “overreaction,” and as recently as October 25, an article on FoxNews.com describes the movement, now in its second month, as being engaged by “a ‘red army’ of radicals seeking no less than to provoke a new, definitive economic crisis, with their goal being the full collapse of the U.S. financial system, with the ensuing chaos to be rebuilt into a utopian socialist vision.”
Fox host Geraldo Rivera attempted to report live from Zuccotti Square in Lower Manhattan weeks into the protests, only to be met with jeers of “Fox News Lies” and subsequently chased out of the square by demonstrators.
“They openly mocked protesters here as dirty hippies, uneducated fools and drug addicts and potential criminals – and they don’t know what they’re talking about, frankly,” protester Chris Cobb told RT last month.
Now, says Anonymous, it is there turn for the games. On November 5, Operation Fox Hunt will aim to “destroy the Fox News website.” In the past, hackers aligned with the Anonymous collective have successfully infiltrated the servers and websites of SONY and San Francisco’s Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) System. Even last week, an attack on the website of the Boston Police Department has been credited to Anonymous in retaliation of the local PD’s assault on Occupy Boston protesters.

Seems kind of pointless though. Fox may have a web site but that doesn't mean it is all that important. All the news and all their money comes from tv. The website is just a nice bonus feature, it goes down for a day, no big deal.

Ok, so let's see. They stated that they were going to take down NYSE Euronext, then reneged. They said they were going to take down Facebook, reneged again. Now they're planing on their next renege. Wait a few days and there will be another statement coming from them saying, "It wasn't us and we do not honor such an attack on Fox network, because in actuality, we are legion so we speak in only one voice and if anonymous tries to implement an operation that anonymous doesn't co-sign to, then anonymous will speak in one voice as legion to denounce such an event."

Yeah, quite some people here don't quite get what's happening at all. Probably people watched to much fox news.

It would be cool if they could take it down because of all the things I heard about fox news there wasn't anything good in there. But I don't believe they can.

Anonymous isn't really some kind of an exclusive group. It could be your neighbor, your teacher, your parents, your dog, etc. These people read about what's happening through the anonymous website, then they do their part to help out. Anyone can help out if they hide behind a proxy (or else your ass will get caught). Anonymous is everyone.

Hence it is also not a hivemind. Hence this Youtube 'threat' and all of the others before it were probably the work of a couple of kids with no support or abilities. Are they 'anonymous'? Yes. Should anybody give a shit? No. Stop these threads.

Also, the only weapon anyone really has in bringing down websites externally is a DDoS, which doesn't work against a major website that already gets millions of hits every day...

That's debatable. Fox News at least gets it right part of the time, when they criticize Obama. The other networks never criticize any president. That's some major shillage right there.

That's so very, extremely, ridiculously untrue.

FOXNews criticizes Obama because he (allegedly) a Democrat. The main figureheads of FOXNews, while Bush was in office, did nothing but tout how crticizing any President, especially in a time of war, was completely 'un-American', and painted the patriotic picture of having to stand behind the President, or be considered 'one of them.' Hannity, O'Reilly, Beck, etc. All of the main FOX personalities worked damn hard to perpetuate that "shut up" (O'Reilly's own words) rhetoric - to Bush criticizers - all through his second term.

CNN and MSNBC have been notoriously critical to Bush, all through his Presidency, so I don't know where you're getting the 'haven't been critical of any President' idea from.

Oh man, cmind you obviously know nothing about DDOS... or how servers work or how the internet works UNDER the thing you see on your computer screen. A DDOS can and does take down large sites all the time. Though they need not use DDOS, they could simply hack the admin account and deface the site or even wipe the servers (even the back up servers if they had the time and patience plus skill). Though I believe anonymous is ceasing to hack anything else as they're trying to hideout from the governments bloodhounds.
