      Fire Safe Cigarettes - Conspiracy

Ok, probably barley any non-smokers know about this. But pretty much every country now has made cigarettes "fire safe".
Barely anyone dies from cigarette-caused fires, but that's besides the point.

Saltpeter is the chemical which has been added to almost all cigarettes except for the rolling tobacco since almost forever, to keep them lit. Which is why rollies go out if you don't drag on them.

To make them fire safe, all they would have to do is stop putting saltpeter in em.
      Simple.

Instead, they add 5 extra chemicals. Only one is known.
      One is ethylene-vinyl acetate.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethylene-vinyl_acetate
Results of tests conducted on rodents show the risks associated with 'Ethylene Vinyl Acetate copolymer emulsion based adhesive' include triggering the cellular proliferation necessary for tumor development.

They put this in two bands around the cigarettes. Which is obviously pointless, a cigarette could light a fire long before it gets to one of those rings.

They have also dipped the tobacco in some form of oil which keeps it wet. Someone said this might be polychloroprene but I'm not sure.

Also there is 13.9% more Napthalene (which causes headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, malaise, confusion, anemia, jaundice, convulsions, and coma) and 11.4% more Carbon Monoxide.

Fires have actually increased for smokers in New York, the first state to pass the law. Similar in other states and countries too since then.
This is because the design makes the ember fall off much more easily and towards the end of the cigarette the ember falls out completely.

They do all this when they could just remove the saltpeter. Which makes you wonder about their real motives.
My guess is to kill off all the smokers. Faster than should happen. If smoking is harmful (obviously it is) why not make the tobacco companies remove every single chemical? Or rather, stop adding them.

Because they don't care about people's health. Natural tobacco is FAR FAR less harmful than store bought tobacco. But that is illegal because somehow you are evading tax. Doesn't apply if you are growing tomatoes though, and there's tax on them too.

What do you think? Do you care?

How can you add more carbon monoxide? It's a gas that is generated through combustion.

Also, this sounds pretty crazy. I hope it isn't true.

      edit:

is there also more dihydrogen monoxide D: ?!

Indeed, while all smoking has its downfalls, store bought cigarettes are by far the worst kind, follwed by hand rolling tobacco with just a fraction of the chemicals added, follwed by natural tobacco. As you said, rather than add more chemicals and not tell people of the dangers, they should remove the chemicals and perhaps not people they are removing them (so they don't think there are no risks at all now).

I noticed this and complained about it for awhile. I'm not a "constant" smoker. I'll hold a cigarette or set it in the ash tray for a couple minutes before taking another toke at times. When my cig's kept going out, I Grrrr-ed about it. Now I'm used to it.
My son told me about this information a couple months ago... but not the details.
Maybe that explains why I've been getting a lot more headaches. I'm at least a pack and a half a day smoker. I feel the effects of over-doing it a lot faster than I did when younger too (nausea).

I guess all of this is more reason to quit. But I've reached a point that I really don't want to :/

This really just sounds like severe incompetence of government rather than a conspiracy.

Erm... I think that it is actually legal in the US to grow one's own tobacco. Selling it is the kicker.

That still doesn't detract from the fact that cigarette companies are essentially gluing and banding cigarettes together with what basically amounts to Elmer's glue and plastic. It's never good to inhale burning plastic.

It's not a conspiracy, it's a buisness. Drug dealers want you to buy, not be healthy. This shouldn't surprise anyone. I'm sure the whole "cigarettes are unhealthy" thing is pretty well understood to the point they could just start rolling bullets facing towards the filter and not affect their PR much. From a marketing standpoint, fire safe and less healthy seems like a nice tradeoff.

I always hated cigarettes taste and feel anyways so I guess i'm lucky to not be addicted like countless others, they should really use cannabis to quit instead of tobacco, for 1 million reasons, first cannabis helps you forget about nicotine cravings, then once they pass you can easily quit smoking cannabis and be 100% any smoke free.

What do I think? Well, I think cigarettes should be flat out illegal, but it will never happen because the government is all too happy to ruin the health of its citizens to rake in more tax money.

And this only makes it worse.

That is a terrible Idea honestly, haven't people learned what prohibition does?

Humanity is doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past until humanity learns how to correct those mistakes.

Making something forbidden and illegal only makes the price skyrocket, and demand, along with bloodshed...

You are worried about the well-being of people? Having it illegal will only kill more people.

Yeah I should have explained that. I mean coz you have to suck on them harder to keep it alight. Which means it burns hotter which creates more carbon monoxide.

Yeah, we all know it's stupid. But that doesn't help anyone. Taking any drug is probably stupid to some people. But we as a society need to learn that people are going to do it anyway and we need to reduce the harm. Because some people just need some sort of vice. Around 70-80% of people I think it is, need a vice. IMO it's probably 90% or so. How many people do you know that don't do any drugs whatsoever. This includes coffee, tea, alcohol and chocolate.

I can bet with confidence that if they made some synthetic caffeine substitute which was more dangerous than normal caffeine and put it in coffee, people would complain.

But it's not the cigarette companies idea. The governments made the laws.

      So true.

      EDIT:
Maybe a more obvious analogy would be making drunk safe alcohol or driving safe alcohol. Putting something in there that destroys your liver quicker than the alcohol already does alone.
The only reason FSC are even allowed to be sold is because of the recent mass smoking hysteria.

True, but Smoking is a bad vice because secondhand smoke hurts other people. My vice is coffee. By drinking Coffee, I don't force other people to drink "secondhand Coffee," unlike smokers.

Yeah and I am sick of that second-hand smoke thing too. Fair enough if they wanna ban it inside. But then they ban smoking outside too. Just recently in Melbourne they made it illegal to smoke in the CBD. That's just fucked up. Second hand smoke does not harm you outside, because you don't breathe it in unless you walk right up to the persons mouth and inhale. Plus there's thousands of cars driving around everyday, polluting the atmosphere, which is actually proven to harm people. Bloody second hand smog.

They recently thought of third hand smoke too. The chemicals get into fabrics and materials and then leech in to your children's skin! Seriously, look it up. It's just ridiculous.

Plus I bet your spent coffee beans are polluting the water too.

      STOP SMOKING.

It's the most pointless, disgusting habit ever.

Smokers REEK. When a smoker sits next to me in class I cover my face b/c I just cannot stand sitting next to an ashtray. It's distracting too. Should be illegal.

Well... Kinda. But the studies have only show small amounts of caffeine in water due to coffee, while coffee beans make a great fertilizer.

Yeah, still not getting the point huh?
Thought you of all people would have understood nina.
Especially saying it should be illegal. Wouldn't expect that from you as I'm sure you know making something illegal does absolutely no good for anyone or anything.

You know...except robbery, theft, burglary, murder, physical assault, rape, torture...no sense making any of those illegal.

I'm inclined to agree with Nina in that it should be illegal in public locations. I'm so damn sick of being forced to smell that shit. I'm allergic to it, too. I'd go as far as to say that advertising it should be made illegal, if not extremely difficult. People can still smoke, sure, but they just can't do it anywhere that sets off my allergies. Infringing on my right to breathe clean air.

yeah, nobody seems to care that cars have been one of the most destructive technologies - with cars come roads ALL OVER the place, traffic, pollution, smog, accidents, wars for oil...

      SO...
a car is a form of transportation. transportation is nice. it could be implemented better.
tobacco is a plant. it does nice stuff. maybe stop putting garbage in it in a roll of paper.

oh my fucking gaaaah why are we operating at a 3rd grade level of common sense.
