Thread: How Have Outside Sensations Affected Your Dreams?

This has happened to me twice that I can recall:

1. This was when we were on a family vacation in Florida, and I was sleeping on the floor of the hotel room (my family is cheap). I was dreaming I was back at my high school, and in the gym there were some police and 'inspirational speakers' to talk to us about the dangers of drugs. In the middle of the gym there was card table set up piled full of drugs and paraphernalia. I walked up to it, picked up a decorated wooden box and opened it and it was full of cocaine. I smelled it and it smelled like fingernail polish. I woke up and my sister was sitting on the side of the bed and painting her toenails, not far from where my face was on the floor.

2. I was in the house I grew up in and I went out the front door, just to look around I guess. In front of my house was a huge cornfield and in the sky I saw what looked like a star fall to the Earth. When the star hit the ground it threw up a massive mushroom cloud and I knew we had just gotten nuked. I considered running back inside and hiding in the basement, but I knew I'd be dead anyway so I stood there and waited for the blast to reach me with my arms spread open, thinking 'Well, this is it, it's over' When the blast reached me everything went dark, but I could tell I was still alive, or still conscious. The dream replayed itself a few times, and with multiple nukes going off instead of just one. When I woke up my sister's German Shepherds were running and playing on the wooden deck in the backyard, creating the rumbling noises that the nukes were making.

The sound of rain. I've always found it odd that when I'm in pain - say with a bad back - my dreams are more vivid and recall is better but the dreams aren't about having a bad back or being in pain.

I've eaten dream food that was rough and flavorless, only to wake up and find that I'd been licking my pillow or chewing on my sheets.

A few times, i remember once i was in a dream and my arm was burning hot and i was trying to run it under cold water but the tap wouldnt turn on.
I woke up to find my arm was leant on the radiator (ouch)

I've woken up from people moving me, or loud noises, but from what I recall, I've never experienced dream content that was caused by external stimuli.

I can hear my alarm-radio play in my lucid dreams.

Last night, I dreamt that I got to live with Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes for a week. I won some shit or something, I don't even know. Anyway, at the beginning of the dream, he was recording for one of the albums, and that happened because I was listening to the album while I slept. It's funny though, because the album is a collection of B-sides, which means they were already recorded.
And all throughout my "stay" there I was listening to his music and I was always thinking "I should tell Conor that I'm not just listening to a lot of Bright Eyes to impress him" but I never did because it's a dream and shit like that just fucking happens or doesn't.

one time i had to sleep in the same bed as my bro, and every bedroom has a tv and his has a PS2. And recently he borrowed Kingdom Hearts 1 and he was playing it. There was music playing during this time. And in my dream i didnt hear the music until I turned on the radio and that music was playing.

I once had a simple dream of twisting a nut onto a bolt. I woke up and discovered one of my hands was rubbing my nose in a fashion similar to twisting a nut on a bolt. I started laughing out loud it was so goofy.

in my dream i was at my uncles house for a family gathering and my uncle sam who is a pretty big guy with a deep voice just starts singing this very odd song with a very high pitched womens voice i couldn't stop laughing and i thought this is unreal i then woke up and saw that i left the t.v. on the night before and on the t.v. was a girl singing the song my uncle was singing

I have tried putting water on my face before sleeping, and I started to dream about rain, or the ocean.

My phone alarm was going off, so in my dream I kept getting texts over and over again, kept on opening them until it finally woke me up.
And even though I had already heard the alarm in my dream it still scared me when I woke up
Kinda weird, most alarms wake me up within two seconds of them going off and yet I was able to sleep through at least 8 vibrations from my phone.

Also years ago when I was a kid I was sleeping in my moms bed and was having a dream of a hill rising up and down making loud noises and a bunch of people running away from it yells "She's ganna blow!".
When I woke up I hear my mom snoring. This is one of 3 dreams that I really remember from my childhood (the other two being nightmares)

I've been asleep in a car before with people talking, and their entire conversation ended up playing like a loud-speaker in my dream. It was annoying.

This has actually happened to me too. They got freaked out when I told them I could hear them after I woke up.

haha the people i was with didn't get freaked out. I was more freaked out. They just told me to shut up and go back to sleep.

Once I dreamed about some trolls. Suddently, they started to tickle me! I ran into a house, because I didn't liked it. But they could still tickle me! Though the wall! And then I woke up, and saw that my little brother tickled me.

Hahaha!! That reminds me of a dream once where I was laying in my bed and a werewolf jumped up on it. It put its head right near me and I thought it was going to bite me! Then I felt its hair and its mouth on my arm, pressing against it. I couldn't move to try to protect myself from it or even turn to see it, and then I woke up and my dog had just jumped up on the bed and started licking me.

One of my latest LDs, I kept trying to move my left hand and no matter what it won't move, turns out that i was sleeping on my side and left hand between legs

Whenever the phone rings, it always would in my dream too, but it would wake me up. But just today, I had my window open, and somebody was using the lawnmower - in my dream, my mom was shaving my head. O.o Also, sleeping during class, my teacher's lectures would seep into the dream, but the sad thing is, I'm still in the classroom.

i dreamt a couple of days ago that i was showing my mom and dad that a fly bit me on my arm.it was itchy and red.when i woke up,i found out that an ant bit me on my leg while i was sleeping.

As soon as you get to the good part, you slightly wake up, but still continue to dream.
But suddenly you hear the sounds of lawnmowers, raking the lawn, and sprinklers.
All while dreaming about some random car engines going ultimately crazy.
As you're wondering why these cars are making this funky sound, you finally wake up and discover that outside across the street,
workers are doing their weekly landscaping duties, while you have woken up a very grumpy person.

A very pleasant and swell dream indeed!

I know I've had it happen to me before, but the one I can remember most was when I was little(r) and fell asleep in my mom's room. The radio had turned on and the music playing started to play in my dream. I remember standing there thinking 'where is that music coming from? I'm in the middle of a lake.'

Though usually what happens more often is my dreams will affect my 'outside sensations'. I've lost track of how many time's I've woken up after being shot or stabbed in my dream and still be able to feel it a bit when I get up.

I had a really cool one when I was a teenager spending the night at my friends' house. I don't remember why, but the radio was on when we crashed out, and I started having a dream during an Oxy-10 commercial. Anybody remember those radio spots - it was a guy with this really deep loud voice , and I was hearing it really loud through the whole dream. I wove it into the plot - and it seemed like a pretty long involved dream - I was a spy playing life-and-death hide-and-seek in a theater with a bunch of shadowy operatives, and I was hearing this running monologue by their leader, who was an administrator sitting behind a desk. The crazy thing is - I could swear the dream was like 20 minutes long at least - but it all began and ended during that commercial. This proves to me that dreams can seriously compress time. I think they consist of brief little episodes cut together like a movie where an hour and a half can cover the entire French Revolution, ya know?
