      Waking up early

I go to high school, which forces me to wake up at about 6:30. I never seem to dream on weeknights/mornings. Is it possible that I may not be reaching REM sleep? I go to bed at 11:30, about. It may just be that my recall is much worse during the morning. Does this happen to anyone else. I now have only 2 nights a week to try and LD. Any suggestions?

I'm a high school student myself, and I have the same problem. Though, everyone dreams during sleep; recalling those dreams is the challenging part. It's because, when we wake, we immediately shift our focus on getting ready for school rather than recalling what we dreamed last night. You'll also have poorer recall if you're pulled out of sleep via alarm clock and have an unbalanced circadian rhythm. (In other words, try sleeping/waking at the same time every day naturally.)

REM sleep occurs every 90 minutes, give or take. Lucid dreams are most likely to occur after 6 hours sleep, I think... just by reading the FAQ and doing some basic googling

I noticed that, when I had to wake up early every day, I had similar problems. I would get even less sleep though.

The focus on getting ready for school in the morning probably makes it less likely that you remember your dreams. I suggest going to bed a bit earlier. If you can get 8 hours, or however many hours you normally get on weekends when you do remember your dreams, that would fix your problem. If for some reason you won't be going to bed that early, you could try waking up after about 6 hours of sleep (or another late multiple of 1.5), writing down your dreams, and then going back to sleep. (That would also increase your likelihood of having LDs after you go back to sleep as I'm sure you know.)
