One of my personal favourites for big epic scenes is listening to trailer music... Music by 'Two Steps From Hell' is fantastic. If you haven't heard, youtube it and let me know what you see
I totally know what you mean man, the likes of audiomachine, two steps from hell etc etc. It doesn't stop there either, the likes of jeremy soule and hanz zimmer just keep pumping out great tunes too. I really like oriental soundtracks because they are usually really simple, most trailer music is really loud and epic and it's quite hard to visualize doing something mundane to it. Unlike medieval or chinese traditional music.
